Boehner Proves Again That Republicans Are Also Too Stupid to Govern
Seriously? The Defense of Marriage Act? This is how he is going to show his leadership? No one cares. Who a person marries is not the government's business. It was instituted to effectuate the transfer of property on a person's death. And does Boehner realize that WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS?
Fiscal responsibility be damned. We're going to regulate marriage. Dipshit.
From the article:
Despite poll numbers showing the majority of Americans now support gay marriage, House Speaker John Boehner sent a strong message today authorizing the continued use of taxpayer funds to defend a federal law that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.
In February 2011, the Obama administration announced it would no longer defend the law, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in various court challenges across the country. Boehner subsequently announced that the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group (BLAG) would take over the defense of the law. BLAG is comprised of five members of the House leadership. The Republican majority tapped superstar lawyer Paul Clement to lead the effort.
Today, House Republicans included DOMA language in the Opening Day Rules package authorizing the continued use of taxpayer funds. The proposed language reads: “The Bipartisan Legal advisory Group continues to speak for, and articulate the institutional position of, the House in all litigation matters in which it appears, including in Windsor v. United States.”
Windsor v. United States refers to a challenge to DOMA that will be heard by the Supreme Court sometime this spring.
A spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi responded this morning: “Today, House Republicans will send a clear message to LGBT families: their fiscal responsibility mantra does not extend to their efforts to stand firmly on the wrong side of the future.” In the statement spokesman Drew Hammill said, “As House Democrats have time and time again made clear, the BLAG does not speak for all Members of the House of Representatives and we will continue to oppose this wasteful use of taxpayer funds to defend DOMA.”
DOMA passed in 1996 with strong majorities in both the House and the Senate.
Michael Steel, a spokesperson for Boehner, said in a statement today: “We continue to believe the constitutionality of the law should be judged by the court, not the president unilaterally–and will provide the resources needed to protect our system of checks and balances.”
When the Supreme Court agreed to take up the case last month it specified that it wanted to hear arguments on whether BLAG has the legal right–or “standing” –to participate.

Best Republican we had retired this year, Ron Paul.
This man was the only one that not only understands the problem with our government but stood by his principles and never wavered.
The Republican establishment is killing itself and far too slowly for the good of the party. The refusal to embrace Libertarian ideals, TEA party winners, and to change from their complicit Democrat ass kissing ways, will forever keep them running a close second.
Understanding that the commie socialists did not take over the Democrat party overnight would also be beneficial to Libertarians and TEA party in their move to take over the Republican party.
The idea that a third party will arise and be successful is folly which is something the communists and socialists understood many years ago. As long as the mainstgream Republicans feel that they must keep their ranks sufficiently pure from those with a growing following, they are doomed to fail. Evident is the last Presidential election. While the party lost the race, those that run the party were still paid. The ones that are lost are the people.

This dumb fucker just won't ever get it. And he's pulling the whole party down with him....good riddance at this point.
Hopefully a viable 3rd party will emerge from the ashes.

There isn't anyone like that with an R after their name. And as long as the R's keep going down this womans body/gays road instead of the real fucking problems, we will watch the entire party swirl like a turd down the drain. Stupid fuckers.

I have mixed emotions on this one. I am strongly against the president unilaterally deciding which laws he will enforce. That is wrong so I like the idea of Congress challenging that. I do not like the idea of Congress doing the executive branches job. They should use the courts to force the president to do his job.
Now the problem here is that DOMA is stupid law that should be tossed out and Congress using this to make a point will just make them look stupid.

How stupid are you? This thread is about getting rid of the rich old white guys that run the party. Or sensible people abandoning the party. No one is happy with the Republican party.

You are. Obviously. You only condemn it when it's convenient. You lack conviction. But Im guessing you don't lack indictment...
That's the simple fact.
