Ideas for reducing illegal guns
OK, let's try to be positive and brainstorm some ideas. Brainstorming means being whacky and allowing imagination to flow, every new idea is a good one, no idea is too stupid, no idea should be attacked.
I am only talking about illegal guns. Does anybody argue with the idea that circulation of illegal guns should be reduced?
Let me start.
- Pay $500 and amnesty for anybody handing in an illegal gun
- Mandatory 1 year jail for illegal carrying or posession, no bail.
- Mandatory 10 year jail for supplying illegal guns.
- Tougher country wide laws on obtaining legal guns, so that the process is not abused.
- Stricter border controls
- Free pussy for an hour for anybody handing in guns (or cock, whatever floats your boat, or a tongue if you are lesbian)
- Armed raids on apartment blocks and search of all property
- Sronger stop and search laws, any car can be stopped for no reason and searched.
- Random metal detectors at schools
- Ban all Tarantino films
- Infiltrate gangs
- increase police resources, increase taxes to pay for them
etc.

Yes, I hesitate to introduce censorship in the media, but at any price, and any censorship?
What are your ideas to reduce illegal gun circulation? Have a Tarantino film with a cast of thousands who all have guns, and hand them in when shooting (sic) is over?

What definition are you using for the term Illegal Guns?
Are you talking about semi=automatic weapons that
have been altered so they are now full-auto, RPGs,
or what?
Or are you talking about Illegal ownership or possession
of a firearm, by a crook or convicted felon or something
like that.

The emphasis is on illegal. The things which everybody here would like to reduce (surely?).
I guess I mean any kind of arms. Discussion includes everything you mention, cannons, knives, forks, spoons,....
Do y'all have laws on what kind of knives you can carry around? In the UK we do have laws (I think, let me look it up).
If somebody walks down the street brandishing a 12 inch hunting knife, is that legal?
This seems to explain the situation wrt knives.

There are different laws for gun ownership in different
states but universally illegal firearms, ones that have
been altered in some manner that would make them
be illegal for anyone to own, would be such a small percentage
as to barley be measurable.
As of yet there can still be found a few places in this country
where one can enjoy a measure of freedom, like the ownership
of a firearm. Those days may be numbered though.
I like the $500 and amnesty thing though.
I could go and purchase a few thousand old military surplus
rifles on the cheap, then saw the barrels down so they would
become illegal to own, then go and turn them in for the $500
reward. I would turn about a $400 dollar profit on each unit.

Maybe I should clarify.
I am talking about weapons which are illegal per se (e.g. a nuclear bomb) but mainly about weapons which are legal, but are in illegal possession. The person in possession does not have the required permission.
Surely this is what most criminals use?
Wouldn't the military surplus store owner prefer to get the $500 themselves?
Maybe a falling scale - $500 per item for the first ten, then $400 for the next ten etc. until it is $100 per item.
There's something wrong in my logic - would a gun store owner want to make legal guns illegal?
Maybe the incentive should be for both legal and illegal guns. No obligation on legal gun owners, just for those who want to.

I am also making the assumption that the barking mad people who want no restrictions of any kind of arms for anybody have fled eccie in shame.
There is the option, in brainstorming mode, of reducing illegal arms:
- make all arms ownership and posession legal!
But that is too stupid even for this forum.

You are going to have to tightly define what an "illegal gun" is. Does the mere unlawful possession of an ordinary gun make it an illegal gun? This could have some unintended effects. See below
Let me start.
- Pay $500 and amnesty for anybody handing in an illegal gun
- Mandatory 1 year jail for illegal carrying or posession, no bail. If I loan a rifle i legally own to you to go hunting and you don't have a gun license, do you go to jail for a year?
- Mandatory 10 year jail for supplying illegal guns. If I loan a rifle i legally own to you to go hunting and you don't have a gun license, do I go to jail for 10 years?
- Tougher country wide laws on obtaining legal guns, so that the process is not abused.
- Stricter border controls
- Free pussy for an hour for anybody handing in guns (or cock, whatever floats your boat, or a tongue if you are lesbian)
- Armed raids on apartment blocks and search of all property.
No warrant? An entire block? Do we just convert the local police to Gestapo?
- Sronger stop and search laws, any car can be stopped for no reason and searched.
You're joking right?
- Random metal detectors at schools
- Ban all Tarantino films
- Infiltrate gangs
- increase police resources, increase taxes to pay for them
etc.

The one and only way to stop the possession of an illegal gun is to stop manufactureing them. Project stiffer penalties for possession and to destroy the ones that are confiscated.

So what are your ideas on how to reduce illegal (or illegal possession of ) arms/guns?
BTW, in answer to your two questions on mandatory jail sentences, the answer is YES, oh YES !!
Seriously, seeing as we are this board, we have prostitution stings, wouldn't it be better to have illegal gun ownership stings instead?

What happens at present to the ones confiscated? Do they re-enter circulation?
I'm not sure about the 'stop manufacturing' bit. It would reduce illegal guns, but illegal ownership of legal guns?

In the UK we have stop and search laws, they come and go, but in practice if you are black (which I am not) and live in south london, expect to be stopped and searched for no reason. Once a month.

we will teach them the evils of guns and make them pay, one way or another
the liberals' first idea, one they still apply heartily, is to suspend from school any elementary school boy who plays cowboys and indians with his fingers
mind control and re-education camps are the first line
