Beggers in dallas.
I have been to many cities and i can say i have never seen as many beggers as i have in dallas.
They seem to be at every street corner.

Homelessness does not belong to any street corner - it's everywhere.
I was surprised to see a lot of beggars in the North Dallas area - particularly on Belt line & the Tollway. Nevertheless, I've been there and I've been homeless, and I do know that there are some homeless people who are just lazy.
But anyway, I usually always have bottles of water in my car, and I try to give them some water and some spare change at the most and say a prayer for them. I wish everyone the most good and that they will eventually help themselves and overcome their situation.
Instead of talking about them, help them instead. A roof over your head is truly a blessing.

Was about to post San Francisco, too.
Saw more panhandlers there in 2002 than here in Dallas in the last 3-4 years.

Several years ago one of the talk show guys from WBAP radio went up to one of the hot corners, maybe 635/Midway.... somwhere up there (can't remember really) to do a story on the begging.
He made like 500 bucks a day for the week he was there, gave it some charity. Wish I could remember the details.
Anyway, don't assume homeless and helpless, many are there by choice. If you want to help, donate to a legit shelter but don't encourage this stuff.

I agree. I won't give panhandlers anything. It just encourages them. It's dangerous. Some of them are very aggressive going up to your car and knocking on the windows. Saw a one legged guy hopping around on a 3 foot wide median on northwest at night.
Donate to shelters.

Saw a news story years ago...they followed a panhandler all day. He was a little person (a midget) and he took his collections and went the casinos in Shreveport. Funny as hell.

I was in Vegas once and there was a man standing outside of 7 11 and he looked so hungry. I went into 711 and bought him a big gulp and two hotdogs and too this day that was the best 4.00 I have ever spent.

While some are, I'm sure that not all of them are scammers. Some of the facilities that cater to the homeless, families and individuals are frequented by those people in Plano, Richardson, and other places you would have never expected. While some claim the economy is booming, for others, it is a tragedy to survive day to day and at the end of the day, its a phenomena that doesn't really care what color you are (although some are hurt worse than others).

During the Laura Miller time in office, the city of Dallas passed an ordinance prohibiting pan handling. Wonder what happened with that?

I was behind one van that was dropping them off at the corners.
I grew up poor so have been on both sides. My dad would work 2-3 jobs just to get by when we were kids and you just have to do without a lot of things. I actually know where the cans of food and clothing that are donated at school goes...lol. As I have been more fortunate over the years I have never forgotten that and support those things anyway I can.
Begging is a different issue. I would never support beggars. It does not help them in anyway. It just feeds drug habits or people who use the homeless to pray on the bleeding hearts.
