Default Beirut

Ok this might be a little strange topic but tonight I find myself watching a movie on TCM called Where the Spies Are with David Niven. It was made in 1966 on location in Beirut.

In watching this film you can see once upon a time Beirut was indeed, as it was once called, the Paris of the Middle East. It was a gorgeous city and boasted some amazing sights.

Now fast forward to today's Beirut. It has been turned into a cesspool of humanity and is crumbling ruin. This is the result of the rule of the current regime and its corruptions. Once the major powers pulled out out IE: US, Russia and Great Briton it all went to hell!

BTW didn't have a major point her but it was an observation I think that needed to be pointed out!

The US was not in Lebanon in those days. It was Britain and France.

That is not true. You should read the book The Black Swan by Nassim Taleb for a excellent account of what happened and why.

And when I said pulled out it was more of an no longer exerting influence thing. I perhaps should have been more clear. However, that still doesn't change the fact that Beirut was once a beautiful city and is no longer.
