Don’t look now, but the Dallas Mavericks are BALLIN’!
This team is deep and this team is good. They play as hard and energetic on defense as anyone in the League and they have a team full of scorers.
At the beginning of the year I was concerned it was going to be Rick Carlisle 2.0 with Jason Kidd, everything going thru Luka, slowly. Then Jason Brunson came on, then the unicorn Porzingis came on, especially on defense, which he hadn’t played much of since he’d been here. Then they found out they could win without Luka when he went down for several games and Tim Hardaway went down.
I was concerned after the Porzingis trade (which was a great one) that there would be a lack of continuity for several games. Nope, Bertans immediately showed his value, dude can shoot and he plays hard on D. But now, the other player in the trade, Spencer Dinwiddie is showing his value and the Mavs have 3 elite point guards in Luka, Jalen Brunson & Dinwiddie. Don’t let me forget to praise the dirty work Dwight Powell does on both ends of the floor. Like Dwight, this whole team gives near 100% effort every night and they share the ball. Luka, has been averaging about 40 a night for the last several games, but doesn’t feel like it because so many other guys are making huge contributions.
It’s great to see a TEAM and Jason Kidd is not micro-managing, ala Carlisle 1.0
Lovin’ It

Porzingas goes down as the most disappointing Maverick since Roy Tarpley.
Need a big body to come off the bench in the Playoffs and get a healthy Hardaway and a deep run might happen.
Update me on where those good Bar B Que places are at again?

Not sure if its just coincidence, but have you noticed Luka seems to be avging more points a game after KP got traded... and like you said, others are making big contributions too. I liked KP.. but for a big, he wasnt doing what you would expect.. and he was too fragile. I was ok with the trade. Glad to see the players we got are working out and contributing.

Playoffs are a different level, a lot of teams are turning up right now, we won't see the Lakers/Brooklyn finals like everyone predicted, I see Phoenix coming out of the West on top, The East is a toss up

Update: Mavs had a bad home loss to the Knickerbockers the other night, but had a gritty 3 point win today against Boston in Boston.
They’re still ballin’ and giving guys spotty days off.

That Knick loss was a head scratcher but they turn around go on the road and beat Houston (Weak Team) and then make the long flight to Boston and beat them in a close game.
Dinwiddie made a clutch 3 pointer with less than a minute to give them the lead. This guy is a ball handler and clutch shooter 10X better than Porzingas who was nothing but a chucker.
Fun times watching the Mavs again.

I agree ahab11, that Knicks game was a head scratcher...The Dwinddie game winning 3 against Boston was clutch, but so was the Luka 3 right before that to tie the game...I don’t think Kleber scored a point but the big German played his ass off on defense, he had some huge blocks and a solid game rebounding.
The Mavs simply play like a Team on both ends of the court and the hardest thing for any coach to do is get his guys to play tough defense, night in and night out, and that’s exactly what J Kidd has them doing and they all trust each other on offense, it’s not just the Luka show.
They have another good ‘measuring stick’ game tomorrow against the Nets, although the Nets won’t have Kyrie...The key to the Mavs defensive strategy in this great run of their’s has been to takeaway/limit the other teams star offensive threat. They noticeably did it against Utah and Donovan Mitchell, Golden State with Steph (and Klay) and Jason Tatum with Boston, held 2 elite scorers to about 20 points each, below their averages. They made those guys into Passers instead of Shooters... It will interesting to see if they can do this against the Thin Man Kevin Durant. Because of KD’s height I look for the Mavs to have Kleber rotating with Dorian Finney-Smith (the Mavs best defender) on KD. I think that will put the big German on the floor at the same time as Dwight Powell a lot, which they rarely do.

Crybaby Green is back with GS, I think they're gonna make a run now, it should be them and Phoenix at the western conference finals if everyone stays healthy, Lakers will be watching the playoffs from Cancun, Westbrook is trash, Lebron's back is gonna break carrying another bunch of lazy teammates that don't care to win

The Mavs are still Ballin’ and had 2 good wins the last 2 games after dropping 2 in a row before that. The Philly loss in Philly was a close game until the end and was closer than the 10 point differential and was not indicative of how close that game was.
Dallas & Utah are tied for the 4th & 5th spots in the Conference with 9 games to go...Dallas needs to get the 4th spot to have Home Court advantage for at least the 1st round of the playoffs.

Amazing what cutting the fat off can do for a team...aka Donnie, KP, and Jim Carey.

Hoping we can beat the Lakers tomorrow. Would love to see them get knocked out of a play-in spot... but this would help the Spurs. I dont care for either team... but Mavs above all first, so that means we have to win tomorrow

Looks like the Lakers are done for this season.....PO berth in the balance and LeBron/Davis take the game off.
Mavs looking at the 4 seed with probably a Utah matchup which I like better than Denver and Jokic.
Feeling good about a Maverick run deep into the PO.

Holy smoking mavs. They have it all going on right now. When the mavs come on the other team back pedals to defeat. Just hope they save some for a long play off run. If the Lakers get in the former king James can't avoid Luca again. James is old and frustrated and Luca is a rising star...mvp mvp
