Hobby non hobby question about younger girls

Put in coed but could be sandbox but was hoping for some female insight.

Are younger girls really attracted to older guys or is it a kind of ego power trip thing?

I am aging; showing some gray, hair line retreating, wrinkles getting more defined etc...but now I find my self getting more attention from the younger crowd, some of it awkwardly uncomfortable.
Example; I stopped by a mall to pick up a Xmas gift...i was kind of hungry / thirsty so went to the food court and got in line at a taco shop. The young girl behind the counter was overly friendly and overly attentive to me while being short and rude to the guys (kids her age) ahead of and behind me.
No-homo but the dude ahead of me had the Abercrombie look, and the guy behind me had the emo trendy thing going... The types of guys I always thought girls fawned over... Abercrombie asked her out and she told him to get lost.
When I stepped up it was all smiles, hair toss, batting eyes, and being overly flirtatious.
If it was isolated to this single encounter then would not give it a second thought but I have been picking up on it more and more as my age related flaws become more visible.

Anyway, a new topic to bounce around or not, it's cold and I'm the only idiot who showed up at office today.

One question, did you notice this while it was happening or realized after the fact? I most often don't realize I'm being hit on till after I get home and see my wife.

Daughters are generally nice to their dads, as long as they don't look like Aqualung or leer at them, that's what I always chalk it up to. Plus we're usually nicer to them than their peers are, and here's the REAL bummer, if they know they're hot enough to get a second look they'll ramp it up for the old farts just to kick a twitch in our pacemakers and then go off and laugh about they heated up the "letch".

How do I know these things? My daughter still talks to me.

In the example above I noticed while it was happening... I think everyone noticed! Not subtle at all and I got plenty of looks from the moms with tots.
The Abercrombie gent had the confused puppy head tilt going.

On other instances I usually don't pick up on it till someone points it out but this one was very in your face...she asked if I had a girlfriend during our less than 5 minute taco transactional rapport.

Who knows maybe my pheromones were on point or I could be on some hidden camera show soon.

If everything follows the bell curve then somewhere out on the edge there are a few younger women who actually prefer older (or much older) men. It's probably around the same percentage of men who prefer older (or much older) women.

Check out the W4M sections in Craigslist, Backpage and similar. Count up how many are looking for guys more than 5 years older than they are.

The truth shouldn't have to hurt. That's why we have the hobby, it allows us to get next to women who under any other circumstance would not look twice at us. . . maybe not even once if we get into an elevator alone with them!

Some girls are attracted to older guys who look like have money. They know you're easy to get stuff from and they will play you. Not that they don't like you, but they will hang out and have you buy them stuff and take them to fancy dinners all while sleeping with the broke Ambercromie douche.

It's just the way of the world...enjoy it for what it's worth.

I try to be as normal, average, and unmemorable as possible so when something like this confuses me I over analyze looking for the angle. All the money attraction comment suggestions seem fall in line. It was after work and I was "over" dressed for the setting so seems to make the most sense.
