Social Security Checks Aug. 3rd

Mark Levine on WGST talk radio. He is a Constitutional lawyer. He quoted from a U.S. House committee investigative session where it was discovered that the U.S. Treasury will have sufficient funds to pay Social Security and Veterans benefits for the month of August 2011. So the head of the Social Security Administration was questioned as to how these benefits would not be paid (Obama had threatened to stop Social Security payments on 3 Aug.). The committee found that Social Security does not have the authority to issue checks. The Social Security checks are issued by the Treasury Department headed by Timothy Geithner. Even Geithner does not have the authority to not issue Social Security unless he is directed by President Obama to not issue the checks. President Obama alone will be responsible if Social Security checks are not issued starting on August 3, 2011.

Every senior citizen and every American should work to remove this tyrant from the White House in 2012.

Had enough change yet?

Social Security and Veterans benefits pay a bunch of lazy-ass moochers that need to get a job anyway.

I see them at the Social Security office and at the VA with their blue jean jackets with their guts hanging out smoking pot outside all the time. Thats the way they all are!

We don't need to worry about paying them, we need to give that money to the job creators.

Why should I pay for benefits and healthcare for these people? They don't have a right to have healthcare, this is not a welfare socialist nazi giveaway state!

The damn war is just a damn job anyway and where did I sign up for anyone to go over there anyway?!?

Can't wait for Geithner to leave. Maybe Obama can find a new Treasury Sec who paid taxes.

Let's get the "facts" correct. Coporations do not pay taxes they collect taxes for the government. Every item sold has the taxes owed to the government included in the price YOU AND I pay for that item. Individuals who own their own business (not in a corporate setting)also factor in the taxes assoicated with the income they want to make into the price of the goods or services they provide. Corporations also are owned by a collection of individuals, retirement plans and institutional investors. So these big evil corporations are actually your neighbors, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, cousins and the grandma and granda pa.

See kiddies, you don't want what happened to THETAXMAN here to happen to you also. Stay away from Bagger websites and don't go to them for information because you'll be ridiculed!

While Gladman worries about Geithner, the rest of us have to worry about this:

Sen. Sanders' 10 worst corporate income tax avoiders.

1) Exxon Mobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009. Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings. (Source: Exxon Mobil's 2009 shareholder report filed with the SEC here.)

2) Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion. (Source: Forbes.com here, ProPublica here and Treasury here.)

3) Over the past five years, while General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States, it received a $4.1 billion refund from the IRS. (Source: Citizens for Tax Justice here and The New York Times here. Note: despite rumors to the contrary, the Times has stood by its story.)

4) Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009. (Source: See 2009 Chevron annual report here. Note 15 on page FS-46 of this report shows a U.S. federal income tax liability of $128 million, but that it was able to defer $147 million for a U.S. federal income tax liability of $-19 million)

5) Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year. . (Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here and Citizens for Tax Justice here.)

6) Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, it received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction. (Source: the company's 2009 annual report, pg. 112, here.)

7) Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department. (Source: Bloomberg News here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)

8) Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury. (Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)

9) ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2006 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction. (Sources: Profits can be found here. The deduction can be found on the company's 2010 SEC 10-K report to shareholders on 2009 finances, pg. 127, here)

10) Over the past five years, Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent. (Source: The New York Times here)

Thank you THETAXMAN for your clarification and educational input. I'm sure you will bring out a bully or two who strongly believe in keyboard confidence through their anonymity as many of you know me personally and have shared conversations, drinks and yes --- even some wonderful ladies which in reality is the true essence and reason for these forums.

As far as Geithner is concerned in my mind --- Al Capone, Wesley Snipes and others are paying / paid long ago for their tax evasion miscues appropriately. I find it extremely difficult to accept the man is in the postion he is in. Of course his "boss" related it was something about "administrative oversight" and will be acknowledged when "more important" matters are culminated.

I would hope those in need and those awaiting what they truly deserve are deemed to be "more important" in thier cowardly little minds...

A retired female nurse who was a POW in World War II lives down the street and I can assure she prays every night she is important.....

I have no opinion about Geithner to be honest, he paid back the 42 grand he owed so he doesn't bother me so long as he does his job. It's the billions listed above I'm worried about, but thats common sense and you couldn't relate anyway.

You must be the bagger leader today, so I'll ask you! How many Republicans voted to confirm Geithner? Go to one of your bagger websites to find out, you know, the one that's sponsored by Depends.

"I'm sure you will bring out a bully or two who strongly believe in keyboard confidence through their anonymity"- So that's why you don't mind saying stupid shit, it's the anonymity! I should've known better.

Dennisrn, you have to excuse Rodram's rants since he is showing his intellectual handicap. He did not say that my statement is incorrect he just went straight to the name calling. Rodram I am not a teabagger nor have ever been a teabagger. I beleive that all the people of this country should contribute to this country. Rodram the National Taxpayers Union ( http://ntu.org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes.html) a non partisan group shows that the IRS breaksdown on taxes paid in 2008 by AGI group shows that the top 10% pays around 86% of the taxes and that group earns 67K and up. How muchh more of the burden do you want them to pay. I know you just want those evil people who make more then 250K to pay more taxes. Well since they pay almost 45% of the taxes you would have to almost double their current taxes collected in order to collect the current shortfall in the budget. Also all those evil corporations that did not pay any of Bernies taxes did pay out billions in dividends that were taxed. Let the belitting of me begin.

Thank you. I really gave up trying to excuse his little fishnet fits quite a while ago and since I have placed him on ignore -- it makes him even less interesting. I think he feels he caused me some concern of sorts and if he believes that for one moment -- I would be surprised. Please check your PM for my resume and I believe you will inderstand.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your meaningful contributions to the forums. You have done some nice reviews kind Sir.

"THETAXMAN" says:"He did not say that my statement is incorrect he just went straight to the name calling."

TTM, when someone ridicules you for the statement you just made, that means they think your incorrect.

As far as being a bagger, as long as you spew their bullshit, you're a bagger.
Don't run from it, own it no matter how embarrassing it is to be linked to Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin.

You voted for George Bush, Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin and really, that's enough repudiation to end this back and forth right now.

I've been deeply involved in political science, psychology and philosophy for some time or at least long enough to spot right wing fecal matter when I hear it.

So lets just take a close look at your claim, because I can already smell the stench of right wing ideology.

THETAXMAN SAYS: "AGI group shows that the top 10% pays around 86% of the taxes and that group earns 67K and up."

Lets get something straight first, if you're going debate this issue with me, get your shit straight.

1. Who said anything about the top 10%?
2. I'm talking about Corporate America and the top 10 tax dodgers.

I'm already tired and bored. Maybe I'll address the rest tomorrow with the right numbers because your claims are all screwed up.
