the whole giving up stuff is bs.. that's not what it's meant to be because that's just what you're supposed to do anyway. give up alcohol, give up sweets, sodas etc why because it's bad for you..
the purpose of this lent, ash Wednesday bullshit is to give of yourself, e.g., a sacrifice from you to make yourself a better person, things as helping others out, like going to visit a nursing home, volunteering in youth groups stuff like that ...

either way it's still all bs cuz those are things ppl should do anyway.
