Warning for pickup's in ROC area
newer trucks
late at night &wee hours in morning. Ya get up to pee, if you look out a window and see your pickup pulling out or missing. Checking no one broke in and you still have all your keys for truck. Your truck has just been hacked ( errr fucking computer on your ride) Wait a bit before calling in (trucks only not sure on hacked cars yet) Truck ya wait a bit. You will have a better shot getting it back if, they got away cleanly after using your ride to rip apart a ATM. If you call to soon and cops on way to you and they see a ATM being ripped apart by your truck. And so cops chase them... well hitting a pole or a roll over can be hard on a truck. But if got away, PD will find it ok between you and the nearest outside ATM. no word yet what make being hacked nor no word yet if truck will then need to go to dealer or shop to undo the hack so your keys will work And Dash stop telling you why are you trying rob truck with the wrong key.
If they start hacking cars, well do ya it back after the chase
mmmm ahhh electric owners, your ride is easiest to hack. Whew for you, So far hackers want REAL vehicles DUH

You're right. Although most thieves in Rochester aren't computer geniuses. They're also easier to track if stolen because the GPS can be enabled remotely by the manufacturer for law enforcement. They can also disable the car remotely.
It depends on what you're using your car for, that might not always be a good thing. 😂

ya carjacking is still king. But this hacking a pickup use it to trash a ATM is a funny sadly.
Someone smart enough to pull it off could make more WORKING . But then could be selling how to ta others.
So far every pickup was found ok before owner knew it was missing. And already a dead ATM. All taken not far from ATM hit. All fount not far away from both.
mmmmm hack PD car chasing you and turn it off ???? if two or more doing. If can, need to get em when truck still chained to ATM

All new ATMs as of last summer have heavy anchor chains and there's extra video cameras in the immediate proximity. The newer cameras starting several years ago can remote broadcast direct to the owners equipment, to LEO if registered and Leo can handle that, etc. I even have some of my hotel installs feed direct to my handheld. BTW, anyone going after an ATM nowadays is looking at two or more separate felonies with the vid played in court, frequently Federal Court. In my area a nice news item just a while back was that LEO used cameras to trace the thieves to Houston. So next time you see those traffic monitoring cameras smile and wave.
But, will these things stop someone from trying....
Btw, with the right equipment, a locksmith can open any electric doorlock and start the vehicle in a few minutes. Which equipment is supposed to be restricted access, etc. But....

I thought this was an alert about something else, but while we're here: If you live in the city, there is a group of well organized thieves going around and stealing catalytic converters at night.. Cops are aware but said there wasn't much they could do. Cameras haven't helped in this situation so far, but they did document that they hit three cars in a parking lot in under 20 minutes! White van with something covering the plates

osd,
yes there's more to this.
The guys picked up for atm work in my earlier post had several to their credit. The additional cameras is what worked.
And, valkyra is correct,
Here in kc a gang working the catalytic converter game was taken down a couple months ago. It was a combined effort of several LEO departments, and all of the wreck yard folks.
These are organized groups.

I didn't know catalytic converters were so expensive?
Better that, than custom wheels if insurance pays for it.

While the weight of an electric car battery will fluctuate based on the car itself, it will roughly weigh around 1,000 pounds.

well that will not take over for converters mmmm easily
I'm looking on how trucks where taken. mmmmmm but its sounds as vehicle hacking is now more than just fun of it. And learning to hack by just changing settings by owner n some other settings.

ben,
In my area, won't take them period unless entire car is attached. An azz bitching about that, on camera, was one of the leads that led to the entire group. Amusing the stories we have from the camera install subcontractors.
Correction, licensed muffler shops are allowed. But full documentation required. Vin, copy of repair write. Etc.
We think that nowadays, these cutoff parts are going outside the US. Which gets back to valkyra's comment above about well organized azzhats

Yeah didn't think about about international, I know some companies are making shields that bolt or weld on to at least slow them down. I figure if it looks complex to get it they will move on. Link... https://www.getcatsecurity.com/?gcli...SAAEgI-gfD_BwE

ah ha.
and for for sure if its also the key to start,. its begging to be hacked. And you can buy a AHEM tin hat for them.
you get home and most leave key near the door they went in. Si ether store father away or it needs a tin hat.
they can hack the car, But need info on fob to unlock and drive away.
mine looks like with a door key in it in case batteries on it or car dead. LOL I keep the fob in one pocket and door only key in other. One of the times someone fried to hijack I gave them the key, fucked his mind till the cops came. Crap, now I need a tin hat for the fob also errrr wtf Eh
