Another BBQ thread, with voting
So the civies have gotten into our recurring rampant polite discussions (arguments) about best bbq in town.
The KC Star has stolen the March madness theme from somewhere and applied it to local KC BBQ and have a voting poll set up.
This is round three though. The first two rounds are history and well, I disagree with some of the results. Seriously there's very light voting.
So, here's the voting link for round three. Vote early, vote often, and no picture id is required.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...Q/formResponse
Here's the history on the first two rounds and the description on round 3:

Damn the pictures are making me hungry! Burnt Ends are my usual when I go for BBQ and Jack Stack is my favorite!

Yeah, not sure how they ended with that final 4.... And a newbie in town that's really good, Blind Box BBQ in Shawnee, wasn't even on the list of 16!

Or Bates City..or Brobecks...or Woodyard..etc...
On a side note, Brobecks has by far the best ribs in the city...I don't even care for ribs but I could eat his babybacks several times a week and not get tired of them...when he say's they need no sauce, he is correct..and the burnt ends are outstanding...of course.

Joes and Jack Stack are trendy choices...but Joes burnt ends have too much fat attached and Jack Stack uses too much MSG...
Just my dime...LOL

Had not heard of Brobeck's before. Just looked them up. Will need to get down there and try them! Thanks, Malwoody!

Well, actually, the best burnt ends in town come from my back yard! Generally, I don't smoke full briskets, but my butcher will sell me just the point end of a brisket for burnt ends. I'll inject night before, make a special rub for it, and smoke it using cherry wood. Chop it, add some sauce, and.... mmMMmm....

The best BBQ always comes from the backyard..
Brobecks was recently sold by the founder...
He's originally from Tennessee and was the first in the area to serve pulled pork when he owned the stillwell smokehouse.
So far the menu is intact and if you go there also try the "Texas toothpics"..but the brisket is so so IMO...
Different things from one to another...for instance, I think the best thing at Joes is the "smoked chicken Gumbo"...that is if they still serve it..
Otherwise I think they're overated...IMO

LC's. How much of their being beat out by Jack Stack has to do with actual quality and how much is due to the sheer difference in size of the two establishments ?

I think due to ballot box stuffing by staff.
Thus, my vote often comment above.
Seriously, lets get the best couple into the finals by stuffing the ballot box.

Voting ends Monday morn 9am.
Stuff the ballot box (the politicians can't do anything about that).

The choices are all wrong. My favorite is a place that hardly gets a mention. Winslow’s on the river market. They must be doing something right. They have been around for years. I like it because you don’t need sauce.

Due to it's location in Weston it won't get a lot of votes but Tin Kitchen is one of the best smoked meats in the area. Nice day trip. Can catch the show at Cline's Opry if it's Saturday afternoon.

Winslow’s closed last year.
For me there’s too many good ones to pick a favorite. It’s kind of like a blow job, in KC even the bad BBQ places are pretty good

Agree, hit it at least a few times a year.
Also, in Excelisor Springs; Wabash.
Nice and an outdoor stage for summer things.
My big issue with this vote thing is that the initial selection was restricted to a limited number of places so the newsies could run a quick thing. But I'm not surprised. That's basic newsie mentality nowadays.

Winslow's is closed. Have very mixed feelings about this. Used to be one of my favorites but in my opinion the quality has suffered significantly over the past few years. Such a cool venue though.
