While the circumstances that got us here are debatable, you should get arrested for violating a military court gag order. These are legal orders that must be complied with, period. There is no room for interpretation here. Judge says "don't do it", you do it and you are arrested.
Having said that.
Sorry but if you want to take on the military with truth to power, you resign first. The military can not exist if everybody in the military decides they want to be an internet star or start a "podcast" of their own or even the noble idea of merely speaking the truth.
This is what Milley should have done, not go behind the back of his elected leader and institute his own foreign policy substituting his for the Presidents.
Have the courage of your convictions ( if that is the real reason for speaking out ).
As of yet, that I have seen, nobody has pointed out what part of the Constitution says that if the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff decides that the President is mentally unfit to carry out his duties ( I always believed that authority was given to Congress ), he may substitute his own since I guess he thinks he is next in line to the Presidency like Gen. Haig thought had happened to him when Reagan was shot. Gen. Haig proclaimed that everything was OK at the White House because he was "handling things" unbeknownst to the Vice President who must have reasonably thought, he was in charge.
This is why the chain of command is their to follow and it shouldn't change whether one party is in power or not
Imagine if Milley had, unbeknownst to Biden, called all his counterparts in NATO and said "look, this President doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground and I'm not about to pull the remaining 2500 troops out and lose Bagram due to his incompetence". "I have found him unfit to carry out his duties via this operation" and Biden finds out what Milley had just said almost as soon as it came out of his mouth.
Care to take a guess as to how that would turn out?
Now Milley could have been a hero in that situation, inserting his decision for that of the President had the situation unfolded better and 13 military personal had not killed. "Milley, hero" for dis-regarding the Presidents order by keeping those 2500 and adding more if necessary to get a much more orderly process than what we got", might be the headline.
But what if Milley had made the call I described to his NATO counterparts and that call was leaked before any of what happened, actually happened? No chance we see Milley as the guy who was making the better decision ( we now know ) than the President made and Milley is nothing more than a traitor for going behind the back of his President and we are left with a media who would turn on a dime and crucify Milley if the politics were the opposite here but also get to absolve their Commander in Chief Biden ( that was difficult to type ) and put the whole failure on Milley if Milley had done to Biden what he did to Trump.
You know it and I know it.
Humm, that has the sound of my next political novel, O.K., my first, "If Milley had done to Biden, what Milley did to Trump".
No Stealing!!!
