Fraternal Order of Police Sends Scathing Letter to Obama Opposing "Race-Baiting" Civil Rights Nominee
Katie Pavlich | Jan 08, 2014

President Obama has nominated attorney Debo Adegbile to head the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. Adegbile has a long history of advocating for the release of unrepentant and convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Earlier this week the National Fraternal Order of Police, an organization representing 330,000 men and women in law enforcement, sent a scathing letter to President Obama strongly opposing Abegbile's nomination.

"As world of this nomination spreads through the law enforcement community, reactions range from anger to incredulity. Under this nominee's leadership, the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People volunteered their services to represent Wesley Cook, better known to the world as Mumia Abu-Jamal --- our country's most notorious cop-killer. There is no disputing that Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner was murdered by this thug. His just sentence - death - was undone by your nominee and others like him who turned the justice system on its head with unfounded and unproven allegations of racism," FOP National President Chuck Canterbury wrote in the letter. "We are aware of the tried and true shield behind which activists of Adegbile's ilk are wont to hide - that everyone is entitled to a defense; but surely you would agree that a defense should not be based on falsely disparaging and savaging the good name and reputation of a lifeless police officer. Certainly any legal scholar can see the injustice and absence of ethics in this cynical race-baiting approach to our legal system."

According to Canterbury, President Obama did not seek or consultation input from the FOP or any other law enforcement agencies before nominating Adegbile for the position, breaking a promise made by Attorney General Eric Holder to be more open and transparent with men and women in harms way.

"This nomination can be interpreted in only one way; it is a thumb in the eye of our nation's law enforcement. It demonstrates a total lack of regard or empathy for those who strive to keep you and everyone else in our nation safe in your home and neighborhoods -- sometimes giving their lives in the effort," Canterbury wrote. "Standing up and fighting against racism wherever and whenever you find it is a brave and admirable endeavor; sometimes standing up against racism entails opposing and exposing cynical opportunism disguised in the name of justice. We will make every effort to point this out in our opposition to this nomination and will do everything we can to defeat it in the Senate. It is our hope, that in the future, you and your Administration will consider candidates with records of fairness and respect to all Americans when selecting nominees for leadership positions at the Justice Department or anywhere else in your administration."

Adegbile is testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday.

The headline doesn't match the article.

Where did you find this crap? Post a link. Are you ashamed of where it came from?

I have no idea whether it is true or not and I have no knowledge of Adegbile.

But I don't trust any article that is full of typos:

1) ... world of this nomination...

2) ... harms way.

3) ... Obama did not seek or consultation input...

I'm sure there are other mistakes.

Is this some high school kid's blog?

The guy is entitled to a vigorous defense, even if he is guilty.

We (our representatives in the Senate) are entitled to the full procedure that that Constitution calls for. Harry Reid has done away with that.

Tomorrow is the day we will define our country.

http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/snow-...er-nomination/
Updated, 4:35 p.m. | Weather is once again wreaking havoc on the Senate schedule.

The Senate will delay a contentious Monday evening vote on President Barack Obama’s nomination of Debo P. Adegbile to head the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division thanks to an oncoming winter storm.

That nomination has proven particularly contentious due to Adegbile’s involvement in the legal representation of Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted back in 1982 of murdering a Philadelphia police officer.

Senators had been scheduled to hold a cloture vote to limit debate on the nomination. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had also lined up votes on other Obama nominees. The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm watch for Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area that’s in effect for most of the day on Monday.

So all votes will be postponed until noon on Tuesday, according to a senior Democratic aide. That means the key vote should take place just before the weekly caucus lunches.

Forecasters are calling for a mix of precipitation including snow, sleet and freezing rain. The Weather Service says five or more inches of snow could fall within the forecast region.

And if the reps/baggers had been sane about approving/rejecting nominations that likely would not have happened. But they were good baby bangers and blew off everyone's foot, not just their own.

It is amazing how the RWWs are so fixated on their Obama rage they are willing to see this kind of bad nominee rather than be rational about the whole nomination topic.

Well done Wackos.

'Committee attorney Steve Castor replied to Lois Lerner's lawyer William Taylor: “I understand … Ms. Lerner is willing to testify and she is requesting a one week delay. In talking to the chairman, wanted to make sure we had this right.”

Later Saturday afternoon, Taylor replies to Castor, saying only “Yes.”'

Adegbile, Lerner and Putin. It promises to be an interesting news day.

Top law enforcement organization opposes civil rights nominee

By Richard A. Serrano
January 8, 2014, 1:00 p.m.

WASHINGTON — One of the nation’s largest law-enforcement organizations has voiced “vehement opposition" to the nomination of Debo Adegbile to become the Department of Justice’s top voting rights official, telling the White House and Congress that his work on behalf of a convicted cop killer makes him unfit to serve in the government post....

Chuck Canterbury, national president of the 330,000-member Fraternal Order of Police, wrote a letter to President Obama-- copied to the Senate committee -- urging Adegbile be rejected for the post of running the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

Canterbury said he was writing “to express our extreme disappointment, displeasure and vehement opposition” to the nomination, calling Abu-Jamal a “thug” and “our country’s most notorious cop-killer.” He said the choice of Adegbile represents a “thumb in the eye of our nation’s law enforcement officers.”

Hmmm! Nothing in that article identified the political affiliation of the Fraternal Order of Police!?!?!

Excellent news! Even my Senator Bob Casey (PA Democrat) grew some balls and showed common sense today by voting to reject this guy... or ya think maybe he was afraid of antagonizing the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police?

For all those idiots who shrugged off Adegbile's over-the-top defense of a cop-killer by saying hey, he was just a lawyer representing a client - would he have defended Tim McVeigh? These assholes choose their clients carefully to burnish their left-wing credentials. Look how many left-wingnut lawyers flocked to Guantanamo Bay offering their pro bono services to terrorists when Bush was in office. These shitheads think it adds radical chic to their resumes. Maybe Adegbile's rejection will make them think twice in the future. If so, that's good news!
