Hillary Clinton would win Wisconsin in 2016 if she ran for president against either of two leading Badger State Republicans, a new poll shows.
According to a
survey from Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling released Thursday, Clinton would beat Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker 54 percent-41 percent, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) 51 percent-43 percent in head-to-head matchups in the state. Walker is a conservative darling who won his recall election after taking on unions, and Ryan was his party’s 2012 vice presidential nominee.
Clinton also would lead Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) 52 percent-38 percent in Wisconsin, a state in which 56 percent of voters view the former secretary of state favorably, and 37 percent do not.
Wisconsin, though sometimes mentioned as a possible swing state, has a recent record of swinging for Democrats in the presidential elections.
The poll of 1,799 Wisconsin voters was conducted Feb. 21-24, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.
