NYT Lawyer: Obama Worse Than Nixon, 'Worst President Ever' on Press Freedom
You can't say you weren't warned. The libs are turning on Obama. It's about time. He's not a friend of real liberals. Here's the article:
James Goodale, the lawyer for The New York Times in the Pentagon Papers case against the Nixon administration, declared in the Times on Tuesday that Obama is going to be worse than Nixon.
“It is a further example of how President Obama will surely pass President Richard Nixon as the worst president ever on issues of national security and press freedom,” he wrote.
Until President Obama came into office, no one thought talking or emailing was not protected by the First Amendment. President Obama wants to criminalize the reporting of national security information. This will stop reporters from asking for information that might be classified. Leaks will stop and so will the free flow of information to the public.
I've written that the administration action against Julian Assange in the Wikileaks case was a clarion call to journalists. Now, the Rosen case shows, it may be too late.
The A.P. case is more evidence of President Obama's dismissal of the First Amendment in national security cases. There was no need to subpoena The A.P. without telling The A.P. And there was no need to subpoena scores of telephone records of A.P. reporters. The subpoena was over-broad.
The First Amendment protects The A.P.’s right to gather news, as it protects Rosen’s too. Obama’s view is that national security interests nearly always trump the First Amendment. No president has had this view before, except Richard Nixon.
Goodale also talked to New York magazine:
Q. With the AP and Fox News stories, it seems like Obama's record on leakers is finally becoming a mainstream issue. Why did it take until now?
GOODALE: The press has been very forgiving to Obama with respect to the press issue. Why? I think the press generally likes Obama, as I do, and doesn't want to believe what is right in front of them. They prefer to ignore it. Since the events that I describe in my book that are very unfavorable, they have not attracted huge publicity.
The AP subpoena changed that. Unfortunately, it was combined with the IRS and Benghazi stories, so the spotlight was there. The AP story had a lot of confluence of factors that you probably won't see again — too many things went wrong at the same the time. But now the issue is in play. And when you start looking back at it, it doesn't look really good.

You seem to over look the fact that the same Republican Senators and Congressmen who are slamming Obama over this, while Bush was president were calling for the same reporters to be charged with treason.

Could you provide us with some evidence, please? Did conservative reporters accuse Bush of being worse than Nixon?
This has legs because President Obama's friends are calling him on this egregious offense.

Sorry COG; the libs will never turn on Obama...................they will distance themselves, but turn ? NEVER.
They will ride out the remaining Obama years; and wait for Hillary to save their day.......
Obama is the most dangerous man to ever occupy the White House....but he also may be the most successful in "transforming America" into a place we wish we never went.
With so many scandals in the picture or looming, it’s easy to miss the fact that President Obama may soon become one of the most successful presidents in American history - defining success as fulfilling Obama’s mission of substantially transforming America.
Obamacare is an enormous deal. It directly affects about one-sixth of the U.S. economy. It directly affects not just our well-being, but also life and death. Arguably, it provides the most significant entitlement in American history, and certainly one of the top three. No entitlement enacted since 1964 comes close to matching it.
Enacting Schumer-Rubio style immigration reform would be just as impactful. It would radically transform America by ultimately leading to citizenship for (an estimated) 30 million or more Mexicans, nearly all of whom will be low-skilled individuals, and many of whom violated American law as their very first act in this country.

Everything you have posted here about the decline of America and Obama's role in it are true.
I just don't understand why the liberals aren't proud of him for destroying the old America they hated, and replacing it with this liberal paradise.

Perhaps you overlooked the fact that Holder – using the Espionage Act as justification – signed-off on a warrant that categorized a journalist as “an unindicted co-conspirator” and a “flight risk” which is tantamount to branding the journalist as a "traitor.” Actions speak louder than words, BL.

A history lesson for Eva. Nazi=National SOCIALIST German Workers Party or Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei
Notice where it says Socialist. That is left wing. Now some have taken to calling the Nazis right wingers because of the nationalism. Somehow it is bad to love your country (if you don't take it to an extreme) unless of course you're talking about the Rodina (the word the communists in Russia used to describe their country). So nationalism is neither left nor right, it is universal. So we're still left with the socialism. Hitler was a socialist before he joined the Nazis. He believed in a government controlled economy but he would not accept the idea that Germany was just like any other country (there's that nationalism that I was talking about).
I guess that leaves us with the German Workers. Funny how the ignorant always forget that part when they throw around the word Nazi.
Lets spell it out for the stupidly disrespectful. The Tea Party believes in capitalism but the Nazis (like Obama) believe in government control of resources. The Tea Party believes in freedom of thought and speech but the Nazis (like the left wing) believe that only one way of thinking is acceptable. The Tea Party believes in their country but the liberals aren't so crazy on that idea.
Conclusion: An utterly stupid remark to make Eva.

Exactly how do you know that the attorney Goodale is a liberal?
Because he once represented the NY Times in the Pentagon papers case? That tells you who cut his checks. It tells you nothing about his politics.
Conservatives are frequently hired by liberals (or liberal corporations). Liberals are frequently hired by conservatives (or conservative businesses).
I know a number of liberal lawyers who do work for big companies, including oil companies. Including - Omigod - Halliburton !!!
