Default Waco Kid's college football 2019 week 9

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -

"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!”

Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1

"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...

Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2

Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!

Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.

So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

That Houston coach is funny to me. Correct me if I am wrong, but what coach is cool about mailing in the season after 4 games to redshirt starters?

That's some serious job security that is very uncommon in college football. I guess when he came over from WVU, UH just gave him the green light to do whatever the fuck he wanted to do with the program.

Tilman Fertitta is behind firing the Major and bringing in Boogersen .. er Holgorsen as coach. as long as Tilman's billions are behind this bum he can go 4-8 and won't get fired. when they dumped Applewhite for posting an 8-4 record the school president famously said ..

"The winning is defined at University of Houston as 10 and 2," she told faculty and staff at the annual holiday party at her home. "We'll fire coaches at 8 and 4.”

https://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...jor-applewhite

Houston is 3-5 at the moment. Holgorsen's record at WVA was overall good. he posted two 10 win seasons in 8 years. he went 61-41. so i guess Houston woulda fired him 6 times? he was not well liked at WVA. appears to have both a gambling and drinking issue ..

this redshirt thing certainly got some reactions from the sports press. and not good. for now D'Eriq King claims he's coming back to Houston. he never redshirted so even as a grad he can do that. he can also leave as a grad transfer. both Oklahoma and LSU lose their star QB's next season. interesting that .. Hurts himself is a grad transfer from Bama. one thing Riley needs to do at Oklahoma .. well two things, he needs a better defense but he also needs to show he can recruit QB's. he can't keep relying on grad transfers.

even with Fertitta backing him, this redshirt move needs to pay off next season for Holgorsen.

Tom Herman set the bar too high for UH and they became delusional. Herman recruited the 1st 5 star recruit in the history of the program when he convinced Ed Oliver to stay home. He also beat FSU in the Peach Bowl. UH forgot who they actually are and thought FSU was still who they actually were. FSU football was going downhill at the time (and they still are) and the alumni got way too carried away by thinking that success was sustainable.

UH should be happy with an 8-4 record. That's a good season for them to at least get invited to a shitty bowl game. They are not a 10-2 perennial powerhouse regardless of how many checks Tilman gives their program... of course Applewhite didn't exactly help his cause to keep his job by losing all of his bowl games and getting the shit kicked out of his team in his last bowl game. You can't lose by 56 to Army in a bowl game. You can lose to Alabama or Clemson by that amount and keep your job, but not Army.

I bet Mike Gundy wondered why T. Boone Pickens kept giving his program blank checks because his OSU was never going to win a championship. I am sure Gundy hates that Pickens died because his 100% job security died with him. I doubt Tilman will have the patience that Pickens had though as a booster. He strikes me as a pretty impatient guy when it comes to his ROI. Hell, after only one season as owner of the Rockets he demanded a big change in the team.

Yep. that's pretty much it. Herman comes in and goes 13-1 a once in a generation season for the Cougars then follows up with 9-3 before bolting for the 40 acres. had Herman coached that bowl they might have won and gone 10-3 but he left and Applewhite lost that game. So suddenly Houston gets a big head and thinks they are a blue blood who can crank out 10 wins a year.

i think Houston made a bad call letting the Major go, for Holgorsen. Applewhite's second year had some sports tough luck to it, their all-American end Oliver opted not to come back after a knee issue so as not to risk his draft dollars in the NFL and King was also hurt in the late part of the year. but, that shit is sports luck and why if you are the head coach you get the big bucks to deal with it.

in theory, Houston could be a 10 win program, if they could control all the talent in the Houston area every year. problem is .. even the real blue bloods can't do that year after year. remember Switzer at ZerOU, a true blue blood, said he could win a national title every 3 years if he could recruit all the top talent in Houston every year. but even ZerOU couldn't do that with all the usual suspects like Texas and A&M getting their share of talent. and of course the occasional carpetbaggers like Ohio State and USC getting some top players and them southern boys from the SEC too. so Houston really doesn't have a real chance to control their own backyard. but they can be a competitive program if they recruit all of Texas well we will see if Boogersen .. er .. Holgorsen is that guy. he does have a lot of experience in Texas. i'm betting Holgorsen isn't that guy.

I think Holgerson will do just fine. He attracts good QB talent and coaches them up. He did at WVU anyways. WVU was never a long term plan for him. He really wanted to be in Texas. Time will tell. The question always remains for coaches. How good is good enough?

no other easy way to do it unless i post 25 separate posts, one for each game. not going to do that. not going to group games by conference either. it is what it is.
