Maintaining the Pleasant Feeling on Eccie
A recent thread prompted me to wonder what goes through peoples minds when they post.
- Do they think before they type?
- Do they try to get their point across with a modicum of decorum, or do they just type it out with no regard for tact, refinement and how others will perceive the post?
- Do they consider if the post has merit, and if so is it in the right forum?
- Are they simply looking to "stir the proverbial pot" and draw attention?
- Are they simply venting, a result of an exasperating day?
There was a post in the Mens Lounge a while back, begging the question of what will happen to the kinder, gentler flavor here when Board A shuts down. What effect will the migration of their general membership to Eccie have on the flavor of this site?
So far, so good. The mods seem to have stepped in politely to avoid train wrecks and the fun still abounds. (Amazing considering the number of new members!)
So, what's the point of this post, you ask? Nothing more than a thanks to the staff at Eccie for keeping it fun and drama free, and a reminder to those who post to consider the above points before hitting the "Submit New Thread" button.
Just my humbly submitted $.02.

Tony , Your post should be read by all. If everyone tried to overlook some of our faults and be a little understanding we all will benefit. The GOLDEN RULE, which, by the way appears in some form or another in every major religion, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" works every time. My hat goes off to the mods. for throwing water on any small fires that start. Just glad to be here.

Yes and gain a sense of humor while your trying to be so pleasant. It will help the wrinkles. Once you accept members for who they are, you will be much more comfortable and happy. It like to took me forever to accept safire's bad punctuation but once I just accepted it as her, I enjoyed her much more.
If you really consider the ebb and flow of the board, it is the person that doesn't like a post and replies rudely that brings everything crashing down.

I agree 100%, Tony. I hope eccie maintains a higher standard than aspd did. So far, Becky and TBONE have done an outstanding job and have picked moderators very well.

Not to disparage any other board.........
....... past or present, but the ownership of ECCIE is an order of magnitude better than just about any internet escort endeavor ever conceived--with the possible of exception of Gina at preferred411 et.al. The high caliber of ownership has also translated into a staff that is second to none, and I exempt myself from that list since I don’t really help around here like many others do. It is the people who make the difference, and I believe most strongly that ECCIE will continue to be a very different, and most of all BETTER, place than anything out there.
That said, please remember that this is a public board; the key word being "public." Controversy will happen. Tempers will flare. ECCIE is, after all, an extension of the real world, and I would not expect this board to be less controversial or acrimonious than the US House or Senate. Some controversy and strife is good for the soul, and some of it can be pretty entertaining as well.
The staff and ownership will keep a lid on all behaviors and attitudes that prevent the free exchange of information and opinions, or create a danger or threat to the denizens here at ECCIE. But I expect--and yes--I hope we will have lots of civil disagreement and opinion so that all readers and members can experience the widest variety of perspectives on the hobby.

Funny, I wasn't aware a sense of humor and showing a bit of tact and refinement were mutually exclusive. (And I kind of like my wrinkles...but I digress.) I also wasn't aware that I was uncomfortable or unhappy in my own skin but maybe I'm simply not in tune with my inner self any more. Oh well, I have been enlightened today!
Guess I'll try to do better tomorrow.
Oh wait, was this a rude reply post? Now I have more to work on tomorrow than I originally thought. Better get up early...

Couldn't agree more TP... I've had the good fortune of meeting some really nice gals and gents at the socials... Some, who in an every day situation, would be very close friends...
Having said that, it just makes you remember that a little respect goes a long way... I have done my share of sniping at the other place, but I can honestly say it was because someone goaded me into it...
I like the new situation very much and I sure don't miss people picking on the "newbies" and seeing the term "Quack" fly up all the time...
A bunch of people here are doing a great job and I for one would like to say "Thank you"!!!

I must agree. The overall tone, "attitude" and feel of the board is more laid back and civil.
Big kudos to all the mods and staff.

You know everyone has a right to their own thoughts and opinions, no one is the same, and we will all see things differently.... and that is fine, if we were all alike the world would be a boring place...I would like to think eccie is a new beginning and a fresh start for a lot of people including me...I would like to see eccie set its standards alittle higher than the other boards...we have classy owner and staff and I would like to see our board members hold the same respect and class as they do....

I believe the fresh start of a new board gives everyone the opportunity to start anew. The mods have done, and I think given the staff on board, will continue to do a good job nipping fires in the bud. Constructive disagreement can be a good thing as everyone voices their opinion or viewpoint. Having said that, there is a big difference between discussion and petty bitching. A negative atmosphere can develop over a period of time given the opportunity and momentum. If never allowed to gain that momentum then the tone remains civil. A great staff goes along way toward keeping things in check. It looks encouraging and is a refreshing change. Good job guys...

This should be the themed statement of this board.
And to reiterate Fawn's point, everyone is different and disagreements are going to happen, but in the end just agree to disagree. Don't take it personally, just have fun and let it roll off your back.
The ECCIE crew is doing a super job and keeping the negative influences at bay and I must say that I have only seen a handful of things that were uncomfortable. We are all adults and should behave as such and realize that "to each their own" and move on.
My .02...
