The 5 largest landowners in the World

Sorry, it should say "5 largest personal landowners in the world"

Is anyone suprised by any of these results:

1. Queen Elizabeth II - 6,600 million acres
(btw, her land ownership is seperate from her role as head of state)

2. King Adullah of Saudi Arabia - 553 million acres

3. King Bhumibol of Thailand - 126 million acres

4. King Mohammed IV of Morocco - 113 million acres

5. Sultan Quaboos of Oman - 76 million acres


3 and 4 caught me out (assuming these 2007 stats are still up to date)

If you look at state ownership:
the second in line is Russia with 4,219 million acres,
then China with 2,365 million
4th is the USA with the federal goverment owning a 1/3 of US land which is about 760 million acres
and 5th is the King Of Saudi who owns 553 million acres.

I wouldn't have guessed any one of those. I would have guessed Ted Turner, who I've read has a lot of property holdings. And the Sultan of Brunei.

It should be noted that the premier holder is a woman. I wonder if she inherited some of that, or whether it is all purchases made during her lifetime?

I have no idea how she acquired all that..I'll look into it a bit more I think.
FWIW, it was an American Citizen that clued me into the number 1 position some ten years ago. It was a surprise to me too then.

Mazo, I would be a front runner for THAT list when I'm at rowing weight for sure.
Charles, sweet of you to say. Odd thing though...when I'm at resting weight I have a decent size arse. When I bulk up for rowing crew (I tend to put on between 15 and 20lbs) my arse seems to get at least 70% of that extra weight. Have yet to figure out how that works!

This is just a guess and by no means has any place in science...but since your whole weight is juxtaposed on that one portion of your body, your body may need to develop some extra padding for comfort alone.
