I looked up NCAA Tie breaking rules. have to say what they put in there is interesting. I knew both teams get 1 possession in each Overtime quarter. I wasn't aware of the this little bit regarding the 2pt conversion.
If a game is tied after four quarters, the teams will play extra periods until someone wins.
Each period consists of one possession for each team, the order of which is decided by a pre-overtime coin toss.
Each possession starts at the defense's 25-yard line.
If the teams remain tied at the end of a period, they play another full period.
After each period, the order of possession flips. So if you had the ball first in one period, you have it second in the next.
Starting in the third period, teams can no longer kick extra points and must go for two after touchdowns. This is to try and help things wrap up quickly.
another interesting wrinkle there is no kickoff in OT and the placement of the football is on the defense's 25 yard line.
apparently the rule is based on the Kansas High School football association rule which puts the football on the defense's 10 yard line.
however, I take issue on the teams getting full 6 points when they score from the 25 yard line. they should at least get 2 pts or 3 points from the 25 yard line instead of 6 points resulting in a game with over-inflated scores. extra point would be elminated entirely in OT.
