Default Blocking an individual from reading your posts ('Ignore' reciprocal)

I've actually found the "Ignore List" useful. It's helped my enjoyment of the board.

The reciprocal would be useful too. If there is a way to prevent a limited number of people from reading your posts, that would eliminate all interaction between people who simply choose not to get along.

Asking people by PM to not respond to your posts just encourages some people.

This feature would be one way to cut down on internet stalking.

Eccie sells forums. You can buy and control your own forum. You decide who has access and who does not. Contact St. Chris for details.

I'm not talking about creating your own separate community. WNY is not big enough to support that in any case. I'm talking about protecting your posts so that the one or two passive aggressive internet stalker asshats aren't jumping on your posts.

I think this would take only a little code. The basic features/capabilities are already there with the Ignore List.

If you add someone to your "Protect List", then that individual would not see your posts within a thread. It would roll up and look the same as when an "Ignore" person writes something in a thread.

That way the asshat isn't tempted to write shit about your post. Most people are pretty cool. It's just one or two ankle biters that can 'f' up the enjoyment.

The low tech way to implement this rapidly is to have an administrative process with a moderator in the loop where you could request that another person adds you to their Ignore List and the moderator could enforce if it necessary.

So if you block someone's posts currently, do you just fail to see their post? What about threads they start? If you don't see them in threads they start, and you force them (as proposed) to block you from their view, doesn't the loss of context for the thread only make communications even worse?

I think it just makes a lot more work for moderators. And I think the mods are spread thin as it is... I think if people were just grown ups and ignored those they don't like, the world and eccie would be a better place... Just don't respond to each other.. ignore the posts... Close the browser or thread and fuget-about-it.

It would take more than "a little code".

Another thing...

There is a saying about posting stuff on the Internet...

You cannot "unring" the bell.

If you are unsure about the ramifications of something you are about to post, then you are probably better off not posting it.

NormalBob's idea is not a bad one. However, the implementation of it may or may not be feasible. That is for the programmers to ascertain.

It takes two to effectively ignore each other. This tool is for those times when you can't get an individual to put you on their Ignore List.

I assumed it wouldn't take a great deal of code because the main routines seem to already be written for the Ignore Function and the Maintenance of the Ignore List.

Maybe you guys need better coders. /kidding

I would think the providers would like this feature because it seems like all of them have at least one or two guys they would just as soon would Ignore them.

You are assuming a lot. Well versed in vBulletin and PHP, are we? Familiar with the code and all of its modifications, are we?
