Default May I please have you fine Gents honest opinions ..if you would??

I have some guy friends and we made a bet about what the response would be. I knew to get a real honest answer since I'm not the wife that hopefully youd give your honest opinion to the fullest. thank you!

What do you do when you spouse/girlfriend is either emotional or upset and ranting on?

1. Do the quick get away to the man cave?

2. Try and offer advice or comfort?

3. Say something like "quit whining", "here we go" or ect..

4. Ignore and do the nod while focusing on the t.v.

It really depends on the subject of what she is ranting or emotional about. If it is something serious I do my best to listen and help. But if it is just bullshit then I let her know that she is fussing over something trivial.

there is no single answer.. 1, 2, or 3 is possible.. I rule out #4.

(1) likely, if she is chewing me out for a good reason, and for the 2nd, 3rd, or more, time

(2) most likely response, assuming her reason is semi-sound

(3) the flip to #1, if it is trivial bullshit we have gone over before, and I have told her before it is insignificant

percentage reaction?

(1) 35%
(2) 55%
(3) 10%

Listen. Repeat what she says. Sympathize. 50/50 on giving advice. Most times she just wants to vent. They know the answer already.

Thanks for the replies. My friend had told me that his girl was upset. And "all he said was Oh , here we go again and she went off" he didn't understand why she was upset when he barely said anything. Lol
So I said most men just stay quiet if you say something wrong like that it draws attention to you and you become a focus as if what she's saying meant nothing. So we were all talking and he disagreed to the fact that most men don't say something smartass. So I did the poll on what was the others options and his. Looks like he lost. Thanks for your opinions.

sounds like he hasn't been around enough women.. he better learn to avoid "smartass", if he wants female company for any length of time.

Well, the last wife I had it, didn't matter the issue, complaint, or what my reaction was. It never helped. Unless she was going off about someone outside of the household. Her record rant was 4 1/2 hours. After I divorced the BSC bitch, I swore I'd never marry again! After 16 years, it still holds. There are reasons why some men are in the 'hobby' other than to get some outside of their marriage. Every time I encounter a lady in the RW I just go to a strip club or meet with an Escort for an hour of 'fun', and the urge passes. thank you for allowing me to vent.-Bushjumper

if she is ranting about someone/something other than you/your relationship/your family, i say just let her talk and talk. dont offer suggestions (never advice) UNLESS she asks for some. or wait until she's over and ask her if there's anything she wants to do about it. then maybe some ideas. or say "yep, that's happened to me nefore."

if she is ranting about you, you prolly should listen VERY closely if you dont to fuck up again. if she wants to discuss, discuss. otherwise just listen.

if she's recently ranted about the same thing, you could just listen again or say "weren't you talking about this the other day/night/week/month?". NEVER say "oh there you go again!" unless you want her to rant about you.

if she's ranting a LOT, you might want to consider if that's what you want to listen to yhat often.
