Blood pressure medicine and ED
For a few years, I have been taking blood pressure medicine. I was prescribed Lisonopril and, more recently, Ramapril, both known as ACE inhibitors. During this time, Mr. Happy could only achieve about 3/4 erections, even with Viagra and Levitra.
After discussing this with my doctor, he changed me to a new, different medicine, Diovan. It has none of the ED effects and controls my blood pressure as well as the others.
Cold, blue steel again! So gents, if you are having problems, look into this.
Ladies, Watch Out! Mr. Happy is ready to ride again!

Me, too!!!! And I've had the same issue as seeker7 since I started taking it a little over a month ago!!! I figured there was a correlation, and was going to discuss with my Doctor next visit. Now I know, and will ask for a switch to Diovan.

Good info. I'll need to spend the rest of the afternoon on internet research with a view to a discussion with my doctor.
I was put on a blood pressure med about a year ago - Lisonopril. Had some side effects such as an annoying dry cough, so my Dr changed to Losartan, which as I understand is not an ACE inhibitor. Still have the dry cough, so got a chest x-ray, etc. Having slight ED problems too and I suspect the BP med. Dr gave me a prescription for Cialis, but it did not help much. Probably too low of a dose.

I have tried all three of the ED medicines. Viagra works well, but is slow to work and not as effective after a meal, especially beef. Levitra works as well as Viagra and is not affected by food. Cialis does not work well for me. It is the least effective.
So, I am a Levitra man, along with my new BP medicine Diovan.

According to a few web sites, including Mayo Clinic, Lisinopril is an Ace inhibitor. Losartan AND Diovan are both in the same group in that they act in the same manner and are Angiotensin receptor blockers. So, in my case it may not cause my slight ED and I plan to stay with Losartan, but will discuss with my MD, nevertheless.
Seeker: I've taken all three too and found that the right dose is the key and is different for most everyone. I suppose diet could be a factor as well. I've found that the Viagra 100mg tablets, cut in half works very good for me. If I take all of the 100mg, I get a boner the size of Florida and lasts quite some time. Bad headache too. The Ciialis I recently took was just a 10mg dose and I strongly suspect that it was simply not enough of a dose. So, I'll keep trying.

Also try changing the time of day you take your pressure meds. I'm on Diovan and Coreg. Took them in the morning, couldn't get it up for shit all day even with Viagra or Levitra. Do my hobbying in the daytime. Freakin embarassing as hell. Started taking my BP meds at night before I go to bed, and now with some Levitra everything works fine when I hobby around lunch or afternoon. BP stays in the normal range all day too, except probably just before climax :-).

Lisinopril and Ramapril are ACE inhibitors. Diovan is an ARB blocker. Both types control blood pressure but Diovan does not contribute to ED and coughing, so says my cardiologist. That's why I changed medicines. When I complained of the ED, he switched me.

I was 55 before I had my first ED issue. Viagra had just come on the market, thank you Lord. BBBJ still gets me wood at age 61, but need help getting "cold blue steel" now. Without ED medicine I'm a flexible twig, but with medicine, It's hard as an oak tree.
