Growing up, my family was in the habit of muting the TV and chatting during commercials (now that I'm thinking about it for the first time ever, does anyone else do that?), as this was before DVR technology. I had no television through college or graduate school, and the only times I've had it since, I did so in an effort to keep myself at home, as a cable subscription was cheaper than going out and seeing live music six nights a week, and I had a thesis to write. By then, also, HBO and Showtime were really worth having, and the only way to get them was through regular cable.
I haven't had broadcast TV in my home for a few years now, and really the only thing I miss is the movie trailers. I never know what's coming out. When
Nightcrawler came out, I heard the title floating around, but I thought it was another X-Men movie. It wasn't until Netflix suggested it that I was finally able to see a film as kindred as
Kill Bill.
