How will the AT&T revelation affect you?
https://consumerist.com/2016/10/25/a...ce-nationwide/
I find this particularly disturbing: The company, described at the time under the code name Fairview, was singled out as “highly collaborative” and displaying “an extreme willingness to help,” above and beyond that found with other communications companies. But what is a new revelation is the fact that with Hemisphere, AT&T acts not just in response to warrants or subpoenas, but actually voluntarily mines its troves of data and sells that information.
I can just see that cute little Lily saying "Welcome to AT&T, where we'll rat you the fuck out".

This is a revelation? Seems like it should be obvious they, and others, are doing this. Selling data is one of the most profitable business models there is today. Most phone apps that we use for a single purpose (like messaging - WhatsApp, or navigation, Waze), actually are worth more than they ever would be thanks to the amount of data they collect and can therefore sell.
Edit: You mentiong they're "... rat you the fuck out" when in actuality they won't unless it's extremely valuable to someone (or some entity like law enforcement). Everyone would just jump ship if they reported every minor thing. Don't think the hobby is something on their list. That is, unless you're the head of BP, some important governmental person, etc. Us shmos aren't relevant to them.

Good point, but it bothers me that they're more than willing to cooperate for the right price. I'm sure the hobby isn't on their radar, but it would be if LE asked it to be. Not much is safe from prying eyes these days.

Check out porn star Lily Adams, who adopted the name of Milana's AT&T character and does bear at least a passing resemblance to her:

ALL electronic communications are or can be monitored at any time. The FBI was screening e-mails before there was an NSA and can still do so. Cell phone call are no different. This in news in that the companies (carriers) are now collecting data for the agencies to sell....but the information is still being collected.
