8 minutes is a show on A&E. It focuses on a Save-a-Ho operation by a church group. The group records interviews with the hookers, and edit and broadcast it on TV (for ratings).

While I agree with the premise of the show (assisting women who are abused by pimps get out of the abuse cycle), I don't know if it's a just an exercise in futility.

Im not sure how I would have reacted if something like that had ever happened to me.

I would have politely listened to the people and been grateful that there are people out there trying to help girls.

I guess I would have been freaked out a bit, i would have tried to convince them Im doing what I want to do, but that if I ever needed help I would give them a call.

Sometimes I wonder if TV is just exaggerating the statistics they quote about human trafficking or am I just ignorant on that activity.

I know its all for ratings and I really hate how they portray all escorts as drug addicts with pimps and low self esteem.

Why dont they focus on REAL Victims.. children.
girls & boys who are being trafficked. The women on that show were all over 21.

I wont dwell on that because Im not sure about the rules here..I think its not allowed

How different really is this group from any pimp. They are profiting from their misery either way. I'm all for helping those forced into something to get out safely and stats prove it happens by the thousands and more often than we hear about but IMO this group making this show after the fact is not merely doing so because they genuinely care if they are profiting from it themselves. Should all monies be donated to after care of the rescued or for future rescues...then I could see some justification. But just to spread the word and label it "awareness" of what we already know and to make a buck off the pain those poor people went through is offensive.
Ms. Cupps, good point...television does and always will exaggerate and escalate everything and anything. It is and will always only be about ratings. News media is no different,... if not worse. TRUE Reality shows don't exist. I've noticed even many documentaries have major flaws from simple facts to in depth stats and research.
Takes some work to get the real truth on most anything seen/heard on TV etc.

What always puzzles me is that they have all these "human trafficking" hotlines. A trafficked hooker can't call 911, yet, she will call a 1-800 number somewhere? Ok.

I watched the first episode. It seemed interesting. At first.
But then....i was just like, ....eh. next!

Although i assume their intentions are good, i was concerned for the girls immediately "after" the 8 minutes...
