Ron Paul: Election shows U.S. 'far gone'
Ron Paul. Right again. Excellent observation from the "unelectable" candidate. Turns out, Romney was the "unelectable" candidate.
Rep. Ron Paul, whose maverick presidential bids shook the GOP, said in the wake of this week's elections that the country has already veered over the fiscal cliff and he sees no chance of righting ship in a country where too many people are dependent on government.
"We're so far gone. We're over the cliff," the Texas Republican told Bloomberg Television's "In the Loop" program. "We cannot get enough people in Congress in the next 5-10 years who will do wise things." The video can be seen at http://www.bloomberg.com/video/ron-p...XZL9Tvxkw.html.
Mr. Paul, who is retiring after 12 terms in the House, said voters on Tuesday rejected Mitt Romney because he had opposed the government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler.
"The people in the Midwest voted against him: 'Oh, we have to be taken care of!' So that vote was sort of like what we are laughing at in Greece," Mr. Paul said.
"People do not want anything cut," he said. "They want all the bailouts to come. They want the Fed to keep printing the money. And they don't believe that we've gone off the cliff or are close to going off the cliff. They think we can patch it over, that we can somehow come up with some magic solution. But you can't have a budgetary solution if you don't change what the role of government should be. As long as you think we have to police the world and run this welfare state, all we are going to argue about is who will get the loot."

I'll never understand why he doesn't run as a Libertarian 3rd party candidate. Why does he cling to the GOP? It does nothing for him.

Ron Paul may be a little extreme in many of his views, but he is dead on in this one.
I went into a local Grocery just before lunch today, they are a local chain. Keep in mind, this is on the east side of Houston. I had several in front of me standing in line, women doing their shopping. Everyone swiped what we use to call a Lone Star Card.
Guess who is buying their Groceries?

What is interesting to me is all of the people I was with on election night would have voted for Ron Paul. That includes the Obama supporter. He may be un-nominateable but he is not unelectable. Sadly the way the system is set up a third party candidate has no chance at this time.

Actually, he DID run as a Libertarian candidate. I watched him make a couple of his commercials in fact. He discovered that he could make a LOT more money as a Republican.
However, he's also a fucking loony and always has been.
I liked how he stuck it to Goodhair and the other GOP clowns during the debate, though.
But as far as being a viable leader for anything, ever ... FAIL!

Sad, when a person stands for peace and freedom, he is labeled loony. That's the sad state our system has become.

No, he's labeled as a loony because he wants to go back to the gold standard.

i am a fan of Paul as well. I think his views on leaving the rest of the World alone is what got his ass kicked more so than his views on the economy.
You guys can cuss him but you have to respect the fact he never allowed a lobbyist into his office.
I have heard he never accepted a salary but i cant prove it.
I think he is one of the very few people in Wash that haven't sold their soul , or cant be bought.

As far as I know, he hasn't taken a salary, which makes him ineligible for the pension.
