Default ashley madison hack

the hack took place in 2015.

I just received an email from the so called hackers claiming they hacked all of my details from ashley madison.

the details were accurate. they threatened to post details on twitter, facebook. they even included a protected pdf attachment that tells me what to do to stop it. they even included a password. the password btw doesn't work.

thoughts on this cheeky scammer?

Ignore them. They are looking to make a quick buck of people. Likely sent numerous emails to see who bites.

Default Hope you passed the test!!

Another interwebs IQ test. Just like when you win the Nigerian Lottery or the "IRS" calls to tell you there is an "enforcement action" against you, etc., etc. Just some scammer trying to figure how smart/dumb you are.

Tell me you didn't click on the "PDF" attachment - and execute the "phishing" program or "ransom-ware" that will worm it's way into your computer/phone/email and make your life miserable for the foreseeable future - if you did, and I suspect you did, because of the "the password btw doesn't work" statement, you failed mightily!!

click bait scam.

Do not ever click on or respond to one of these.

Doing so activates mal-ware.

Ignore!!!

well, I didn't open the pdf via browser. I did save it and ran my av on it which was negative.

I may have failed, but it would be hard to tell if its phishing or malware when it had real world info about me or you. it was undoubtedly a scam. they did warn me tho. lol.

email came in on the 1-15-2019. I just noticed it in one of my inboxes last night 1-21-2019.

Dear Ashley Madison user. I know everything about you. Pay up or else.

https://arstechnica.com/information-...xtortion-scam/

the right thing to do is... ignore them!!! lol!

I'm tempted to send an email to them saying a big "FUCK YOU" message.

its likely that email will bounce.

There is a similar scam going around where they show one of your passwords gotten from a hacked account. Then they go into great detail on how they uploaded a virus to your computer that has been spying on you through your camera and have been recording you "pleasuring" yourself while watching porn. They threaten to post the video if you don't send them money via bitcoin. I have received four of them, two were identically written, the other two just different variations with the same idea. Only fly in their phishing scam ointment is I don't have a camera.
