At a minimum, Walmart workers in Wisconsin known to be enrolled in Medicaid rely on at least $9.5 million a year in taxpayer funds. If the study's low-end estimate of $900,000 per store in taxpayer-funded benefits is right, Walmart's 300 Wisconsin stores could be forcing the state to provide as much as $67.5 million per year in benefits that employees of Walmart's higher-wage competitors, such as Costco, don't need.

I worked at a WalMart store while putting myself through college, never suckling off the government teat for one red cent. You don't have to mooch off the government, it's a choice.

While my Walmart stock is doing very well; I prefer to shop at CostCo (for a number of reasons, convenience NOT being primary). The CostCo model works better imo. Paying employees higher wages, means better customer service. There is a huge difference between how customers are treated at Walmart VS. Costco. Product quality is better at CostCo imo.

I think time has come for Walmart to take a lesson from Costco and pay their employees better. And if Walmart follows, I would expect the left to also demand for reduction in social safety net programs that Walmart survives off. Those are taxpayer funded subsidies to Walmart that shouldn't happen. Unfortunately Walmart supports Obamacare which will only continue with the cost shifting of low wages to the American taxpayer.

Why the left favored Obamacare is beyond me; big business loves it. But it is a direct attack on the middle class. Look to the middle class to get squeezed more by the cost shifting of Obamacare.

Ironically, Obamacare will make it easier for Walmart to continue with the business model the left despises. And as the middle class gets squeezed by Obamacare, they will migrate to discount retailers even more. The left continues the cycle they so despise.

BTW, my experience tells me that prices at Walmart are lower than Costco - it is difficult to be both an industry leader in low prices and high benefits.
