There are 254 counties in TX. Perry requested a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration for 252. That gives you an idea.
Quote:
In a letter sent to President Barack Obama late Saturday afternoon, Gov. Rick Perry requested a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Texas as a result of widespread wildfires and continuing fire danger across the state. The governor identified 252 Texas counties presently threatened or impacted by wildfires. Since the wildfire season began, Texas has responded to 7,807 fires across the state that have burned more than 1,528,714 acres and destroyed 244 homes. Rescue efforts have saved 8,514 threatened homes.

While I'm not close to them in person...I've got stuff that is.
So far, I've been lucky...but many others have not. I don't think I've heard of any deaths directly related to all the fires...but lots of devastation. As CT said...in the millions of acres.
At least for north and northern west central Texas...there is rain in the forecast for Thursday, through most of the weekend. That would help those areas a lot.

Yes, Elections do have consequences.
I hope the hell it rains!
Perry been talking so much shit about the Feds , he got about as much chance of help from them as Houston NASA had in getting the Space Shuttle.

I heard about the 252 out of 254 counties info on CNN...that was what scared me. Good to hear that at least for now people haven't been hurt. Fingers crossed for some rain down there. We could lend you LOTS of that from up here, lord knows we've had enough of it over the last week especially.

A bad situation. I guess Slick Rick isn't so big on succeeding from the Union now that he needs the Fed's help.

Actually Perry already has his hand out to the Feds. The only reason the State of Texas' current $27 billion budget shortfall did not begin two years earlier was due to the billions of dollars of Federal Stimulus money that flowed into the state. Without the infusion of American tax $$$'s into the state budget, Slick Rick would not have been able to tour the country telling anyone who would listen how wonderful things are in Texas and how bad it is in Washington DC.
I am all for Federal assistance for the wildfires but Good Hair can't have it both ways. He regularly tells all of his Tea Party buddies how bad the Federal Government is! Meanwhile he has his hand out trying to generate as much Federal assistance as possible!
What a jerk!

I guess since his state is in the top 3-5 revenue generators for the union, asking for some of it back ain't all that unusual.

I'll bet he'd swap "stop sending money north", for the "money that comes our way" in a heartbeat.
It's always interesting to me to see how some of you take a tragedy that is occuring to hundreds of your state brethern...and use it to cast a political statement.
