Default More Romney hypocrisy

The guy readily admits "his" Olympic success couldn't have happened without (wait for it).....the Government.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=RuQDLvNGM-Q

Key quotes: And no, Olivia, they're not taken out of context.

Beginning: "I'm a big believer in getting money where the money is. And the money's in Washington".

2:08 - "actually the whole Winter Games was a combination of the federal, state and local governments--along with private enterprise."

2:16 - "We actually received over $410 million from the federal government for the Olympic games. That is a HUGE increase over anything ever done before. We did that by going after every agency in government"

As COG would say, you just can't make this shit up.

And if that's not bad (or funny) enough, turns out he was a lobbyist for the SLOC.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...tml?1343302408

Didn't he spend the primaries criticizing Gingrich and Santorum for being lobbyists?

And hasn't be bragged about only taking $1 for his running of the Olympics?

If so, i wonder if his tax return flap is because he doesn't want people to find out what a phony he is for claiming that while making (probably) millions as a lobbyist for the SLOC.

Once again, you just can't make this shit up.

I don't understand the hypocrisy claim. The Olympics represent the country hosting them and that involves the US government. So it is perfectly reasonable for the government to contribute something but then again the US leaves the heavy lifting to the citizens and qualified individuals like Mitt Romney. Ever wonder why we can do it cheaper than the Chinese or British?

Apparently someone forgot to mention that to John McCain.

John McCain needs to retire. I don't know why he insists in being in Washington. I used to like him until 2008.

Default Follow the money folks...

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...ors_picks=true

As Romney chastises the president for pointing out that successful business ventures benefit from a larger social compactand accuses critics of pining for "free stuff," Romney is simultaneously touting an Olympic effort that, more than any other in American history, succeeded thanks to public investment—some of it sunk into questionable projects of marginal value to the Salt Lake games. "The $1.5 billion in taxpayer dollars that Congress is pouring into Utah is 1.5 times the amount spent by lawmakers to support all seven Olympic Games held in the U.S. since 1904—combined," Donald Barlett and James Steele reported for Sports Illustrated in 2001. Those numbers were adjusted for inflation.
How the Salt Lake Games came to receive more money than any games in American history isn't much of a mystery. The organizers, including Romney, asked for it. In his 2004 book, Turnaround, Romney acknowledges the central role of the federal government in making the Olympics possible. "No matter how well we did cutting costs and raising revenue, we couldn't have Games without the support of the federal government," he wrote.
