Bush warned of the length of the war against terrorism. I don't think most people understood. Maybe he wasn't clear enough and maybe that was on purpose.
If the public had understood that this war would take a generation to prosecute and another generation to win the minds of the opponent we would likely have never gone in.

Yeah, talk to the Israeli's about how it will only take a generation. They're on gen 3 or 4 at this point. It's religion.....you aren't going to change their minds.
The mistake was made when we sent troops into Iraq, not when we withdrew them.

ISIS exists because of The United States and is funded by the United States and it's allies. Even Rand Paul admits that. That's why Obama only wants to manage ISIS instead of totally annihilating them.

Right or wrong, we did what we did.
Obama campaigned so hard against it that he was determined to make it look like a failure. It could have easily gone the other way had he stayed with the program and not been trying to prove a point. Now he finds himself in the same position making the same dumb decisions as his predecessor only with much less support. How much time and money has been wasted over the vanity of politics?

Oh, and what is your plan for totally annihilating them? Awfully easy to say, not so much in practice. Kind of like we annihilated the insurgency in Iraq and the Viet Cong, etc etc etc.
The only thing that you can be certain of is that invading Iraq again and invading Syria for the first time....and wherever else these people are holed up will only make it worse....not better. The reason ISIS exists is because our past and continued presence in that region of the world is not ever going to be well-received. Same as if they were mucking around over here. I might not be shouting "alla Akbar" or cutting off heads but you can damn sure bet I'd be willing to pick up a rifle if the situation was reversed.
We need to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels and position ourselves to have as little to do as possible with those lunatics.....they aren't going to change and we aren't going to be able to kill all of them.

Had Bush said that it may cost all your future SS and Medicare savings....not sure how many folks he would have got on board that Iraq WMD train...
But that is the question that should have been asked then and now.

Not having any troops in Iraq in the first place would have been the most obvious solution. Pulling everybody out and leaving the crazies to whack each other's heads off until hell freezes over would be the next best thing.
But, for the sake of argument: how many troops should we have left? What would be their mission? How long would they have to stay? How much would it cost? What "problem with ISIS" would having left troops in Iraq have solved?
Start ciphering knucklehead.

When the Israeils have to pacify the U.S. pacifists they are not going to "finish" anything .... IMO the religious tenets are a tool to give "legitimacy" to the actions and to motivate the reluctant warriors. It's a turf war laced with economics ... as in the haves vs the have-nots. The "anointed ones" (the "royalty" and "privileged" in the 3rd world countries) vilify the Satans of the West (who in most instances are shoring up the "anointed ones") to provide blame for the poor conditions and circumstances in which the have-nots suffer.
Just look at this forum ...
.... if they don't like the message they attack the messenger. Vilify is closer.
It has nothing to do with "religion" .... it can't....what they do to each other is "unjustified." What did the Salem Witch trials have to do with "religion"?
