This is why I make sure the photographer signs away all rights to MY photos. If I'm paying him/her for them, they are MINE.
I can't believe he posted photos of your face, Lexi. Rest assured he lost business because of it. I was considering calling him because I'm in need of new pics, but definitely not now. I don't show my face either, and I'd be panicking right about now were I in your position.
Lesson to be learned here: Get the RIGHTS to YOUR photos!

heh.
sorry, but anybody who runs their "portfolio" off flickr probably isn't professional enough to even understand rights management, much less use a contract.
and caroline, i know you and i have discussed this before, but - while you may get a licensing agreement that restricts a shooter from using images of you - they are never "yours". the photographer is always the copyright holder.
too bad we can't talk about it in person…

I agree with the first part. Also there is a rather exotic mix of camera types and file names that would really make me wonder. The second part however, that the photographer is always the copyright holder is not correct. If the photographer is in your employ (you aren't paying for a service but instead have made it plain in writing that they are working for you) then you can, with a simple written agreement, own the copyright yourself. Photographers don't like to do this because they want to sell you prints or disks but it does happen all the time. For example, the photographers for Playboy or Sports Illustrated do not own the copyrights to their photos, their employers do. Many adult website owners who hire a photographer to shoot them do the same. And the copyright holder can also convey those rights.

yep, that's true. copyright can be transferred via a legal transaction signed by both the owner and the recipient.
and it's also rare except in the kind of cases you mentioned. the point that ladies like caroline need to remember is that you should not conflate licensing with copyright, and most freelancers only speak in terms of licensing.
if you want total ownership of copyright you have to be VERY specific about that.
without a specific copyright transfer agreement, the photographer is the automatic owner.
honestly, if a girl wants that stipulation, she's best off seeking a photographer outside the escort world. some of us can be counted on to handle images appropriately, but why take the chance, especially if you want your anonymity protected because none of this matters unless you'll sign your real name to a contract/agreement.
you also have to accept that at the end of the day it's a digital world, and there's virtually nothing you can do to guarantee images aren't being used in ways you disapprove of.

We have a new problem with the OP's portfolio. A cursory check of it reveals that some of the images come from glamour photographer's websites. Now maybe they took the images from you but then why do you have them in your portfolio with their watermarks? Now perhaps I stumbled on your "real life" sites except that they are in several areas of the country and also not in the Northern Central Texas area. That seems odd to me. Since you are asking these women to not only pay you in monetary terms but in "trade" as well, I think that they should know. Now at the moment I haven't taken the time to Google or tineye search your images but I wonder what someone who did that would find.
As a photographer myself I have to say that there is nothing lower than someone who claims someone else's work as his own. A professional level camera does not a professional photographer make.

Agreed, you have to make it plain and you should provide the paperwork and wording. I also agree that nothing can guarantee that the images will remain private, just ask Scarlett Johansson or Vanessa Hudgens. The only way to guarantee that such photos are never seen it is to never pose for them..

1. If photographer is paying the model, photographer owns the photos, model must sign model release form and grant of rights.
2. If the model (or client) pays the photographer for his services, model owns the photos, photographer must sign a contract.
All must be done prior to shooting.

uh...no. i don't know where you got this idea, but - and i don't know how to say this more clearly - the photographer is ALWAYS the original copyright owner and THE ONLY WAY ANY RIGHTS GET LICENSED OR TRANSFERRED IS IF A SPECIFIC AGREEMENT IS SIGNED regardless of who is paying who.
just because the client pays for the photos, they do not assume any ownership, and by far the most common scenario is one where the client is granted usage rights for specific time frames, print runs, etc. USAGE RIGHTS ARE NOT COPYRIGHTS.
suggesting to these ladies that the photos become "theirs" just because they pay and that a photographer must sign their rights away is just irresponsible. the only thing absolutely correct about whjat you said is that it has to happen before the shoot.
