Just the tip of the iceberg, I'm afraid. When it is all said and done, the Big 12 will be a second tier conference, if it even continues to exist at all.

the remaining schools could probably join the NCAA division II. Maryville might still beat them.

Well it could bring in other schools, like TCU, UMKC, Kansas City Chiefs, ooops forget the chiefs they might bring the conference down.

Does UMKC even have a football team?
Chiefs and football shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence.

You know, I dont think UMKC does, but as bad as this conference is going to be if the rest leave they could start one.

Maybe they could just bring in perennial Kansas HS football powerhouse Hutchinson. Probably fit right in, but not so sure about their basketball program.

So far the only defections are CU to the PAC 10 and as yet not announced Nebraska to the BIG TEN. There are as of now 11, perhaps soon to be 10 teams left in the Big 12, with both of the defections from the North. The problems revolve around FOOTBALL, as it IS the CASH COW. To try and replace a Nebraska will be tough, as there isn't a big football school close to any of the northern teams.

KU and K-state are going to be picked lost for dodgeball.
Its all up to Texas now...if they bolt, probably all the Texas and Oklahoma teams will go. If not, the Big 12 will be sending out invitations. Iowa maybe?

Hey, why not Iowa, the idiots from the Big Ten started the whole mess by thinking out loud in the first place.

Now it's official - Nebraska is the 12th school in the Big Ten. ESPN is now reporting that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. are going to announce Tuesday (the 15th) that they will be joining the Pac10. Texas A&M (because Gene Stallings, former Alabama coach, is a regent/official on the A&M board) is looking for admission to the SEC, but may end up going to the Pac10 as well.
This will leave Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor probably ending up in the Mountain West or WAC, Iowa State in C-USA or Missouri Valley, and Missouri hoping that the Big Ten comes a-calling.

Here is an interesting article about the problems behind this - http://www.kansascity.com/2010/06/12...s-dealt-a.html
From this it sounds like the only way to keep the conference together is to promise more ass kissing to Texas. I hope this all works out OK for the 6 remaining Big 8 teams but I'm not sure saving the Big 12 is the best thing.
