Clueless About This World
Looking to rot my mind this evening, I watched two half-hour episodes of a Starz / Encore original series called "The Girlfriend Experience." There's an hour I'll never get back.
To quote from that great philosopher, Jesus Quintana from "The Big Lebowski," laughable, man, laughable!
Maybe they could have paid some money to an actual sex worker to educate them a little (the people who made this POS, that is). But no, they didn't need to do that -- they already know it all.
The story seemed to be following this new girl, just starting in the business. I guess she's supposed to be some kind of super-escort, being enthusiastically recruited by an agency. They show her having a drink with a client, and she's so cool, so detached ... she hardly seems to be awake. Then later on she's having sex with him, and she seems to still have most of her regular clothes on. Gee, sure want me some of that.
Or not.
I haven't seen all that many working ladies. But, of the ones I've spent time with, every single one had at least one hundred times more personality and intelligence than this cable-network superescort.
Anyone else see this crapfest? If you haven't, don't feel like you've missed anything.

Every client was some super rich Wall Street type wearing a suit. Maybe some of y'all show up at your dates wearing a suit...
And yes, the fully clothed sex is true GFE!

I am shocked!!! A television program that is not accurate, that didn't do its research, and doesn't care about the inaccuracies?
Shocked I tell you, shocked!

It happens any time I leave the boob tube on. Never try to watch anything imitating the "real" scoop. It's why I don't have cable. Go for fantasy, sci fi or absolutely anything not telling you how things are or how one should interpret or believe anything. People share only what "they" themselves see or the way they desire others to see something. It's real easy to influence others in this manner. I had this gal pal years ago, who was crushed to discover that Jerry Springer shows actually were not real. Blew my mind she thought it was real.
Sorry, hon. If you got all this time to watch the brain wash machine, turn that sucker off, and come let's have some "real". I actually have been planning, you know, just in case you head this way. I'm conniving like that. Well, no I'm not, but I do like to fantasize about what's actually real.

I know what you mean about the shock of television unreality. Case in point: I'm such a nerd, I like to see a thing on cable (Science Channel, I'm thinking) called "How It's Made." Self-explanatory by title: it shows how various things are made, commercially. I really enjoy it until they show something I happen to know something about, such as how optical devices are made. Suddenly I'm appalled at the things they get wrong, the crude oversimplifications, and so on. Puts me off the whole show, because if they get things wrong that I happen to know about, you just know they're doing the same with everything else, too. Truly, we are in the last days.
Thank you so much for the invitation! Currently, it's not a matter of the time; it's the $$$. My wife's car just turned over on its back (or top, I guess) and put its legs up in the air like a dead cockroach, and so I have to buy a replacement. This means I have to do my sketchy imitation of a responsible grownup. One of these days, though!

It weirds me out that folks get hooked on goofy shows like "The Bachelor", Grey's Anatomy, or whatever is popular these days. It's been a while, so I'm not sure what the shows are right now that everyone has to stop heaven and earth in order to watch. And that's not even the worst. Sports. Talk about affect a whole city...LOL Ya don't wanna be here on Mondays after the Boys lose a game. Monday plus a loss = equal angry, depressed, and very disgruntled individuals everywhere. Crazy how that works....LOL
eeewww...grown up stuff...yuckee doodle! LOL I get it though...it's a dirty job, but sometimes we just gotta do it. sigh....

Hmmm. I just watched the trailer, and I see what you mean. The movie starring Sasha Grey was so much better.

Sasha Grey, the porn actress? I don't know the movie to which you refer. But if it involves sex work, I'm sure it was helped greatly by the involvement of an actual sex worker.

Here is an interesting review that actually references a real provider as a fact checker.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...ce=CSPMedition
If you want something closer (and naked pornstars having explicit sex), try:
www.tonightsigirlfriend.com. It is more accurate, but even the porn industry doesn't get the hobby correctly.
How disappointing that writers in Hollywood aren't willing to do the research and do a realistic portrayal of the hobby. I know some of you ladies have many stories that easily beat the imaginations of Hollywood writers. Would make some good comedy-drama.

I'm so glad I grew up with Leave to Beaver......the true reality show. I can always vision mom cooking breakfast in a nice dress with pearls on. I wonder if Ward ever got some beaver??

The best movie I've seen that shows what escorts are really like would be "Black & White, & Sex". IMDB Page.
I enjoyed "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" IMDB link which portrays a high class escort in the UK. Her personality seems to be much more what you would expect from a provider versus the new Starz series.
The thing I struck me the most in the few episodes of "The Girlfriend Experience" I watched was how....uncharming she was (director's call no doubt). She is obviously intelligent but the only thing that seems to recommend her to being an escort is that she is attractive and doesn't seem to fake her orgasms. She knows what she wants sexually which is something that a woman certainly needs in this business. But to attract men into quickly becoming her regulars like she does seems a bit far fetched unless they aren't showing us her seducing her dates with her mind.

I know I shouldn't have been so disappointed; no one claimed it was a documentary; much less a documentary that would give sex workers a fair shake. It's just another entertainment exercise in titillation, drawing viewers with the implication that they'd see lots of T&A (not so, of course). I'd had some forlorn hope that it might give people who haven't experienced the demimonde a little bit of a feeling for what I discovered when I took the plunge: that every "civilian" has seen lots more sex workers than they think they have, because sex workers are payers of bills, shoppers for groceries, raisers of children ... who look just like regular people because they are regular people. And I don't think there's ever going to be that first inch of progress toward decriminalization until more civilian heads get wrapped around that concept.
But the show can't be seen as a blown opportunity, because its makers had a different agenda. Regrettable.
