Harry Reid's grab for power
Rules put in place by Thomas Jefferson are not good enough for Harry Reid. Falsely claiming that the GOP is blocking all the judicial nominations of Obama Reid announces the nuclear option. A simple majority vote is all that is needed to confirm and advise as written in the Constitution. Gone is the supermajority, gone is the impetus to force ANY president to make mainstream nominations, and gone is the design to slow down the march of government. This grab is an affront to any real American who understands what the Constitution stands for. Reid just wants to win at any cost and change our judiciary with a bunch of radical liberal hacks. The rule of law is out the window when the majority can change the rules to suit them. The explanation given to every boy and girl in junior high about the importance of constitutional protections; if you had ten people on an island, seven men and three women, the majority could decide on any given day what they could do to the minority. We have consitutional protections that protect the rights of the minority. Harry Reid just shit on those protections.

only 23 district court nominees have been filibustered in the entire history of this country. Twenty of them were nominated by President Obama. With one out of every 10 federal judgeships vacant, millions of Americans who rely on courts that are overworked and understaffed are being denied the justice they rightly deserve. More than half the nation’s population lives in a part of the country that’s been declared a “judicial emergency.”
Reid eh?

Of course, when the political tide shifts and the Republicans have the majority, the Democrats will be screaming to high heaven to revert back to the old rules.
What goes around, comes around.

The 60% super-majority isn't a constitutional protection and is not, in fact, even mentioned in the Constitution.
The 60% super majority is only a Senate rule. And the Senate can changes its rules - which it just did.

The best lies are disguised in an abundance of truth. Your post is a great example.

Again, what evidence do you have to present that these nominations are not in the reasonable bounds of “mainstream”? Was justice Thomas “mainstream”? I suspect YOUR definition of “mainstream” is not exactly a mainstream definition. And personally, having read the constitution a number of times I missed the part that said the processes of the Senate should be selected so as to “slow down the march of government”. Where is that part?
This grab is an affront to any real American who understands what the Constitution stands for. Reid just wants to win at any cost and change our judiciary with a bunch of radical liberal hacks.
And here we slip in the REAL lie disguised as truth. Yes, Reid does want to win at all costs and change the judiciary with a bunch of liberals. Just as the Bush/Cheney/Rove eight year reign wanted to win at all costs and change the judiciary with a bunch of conservatives. The reps object strenuously now. The dems objected then. So your trying to paint this as a break with 239 yrs of historical precedence is complete BS. It goes back at least as far as Andrew Jackson. At least neither Bush-2 nor Obama have threatened to challenge their opponents to a duel as Andy J is supposed to have done.

Sad but true. The wackos are in control of both parties now, and instead of compromise they seem to only think about revenge.

CJ, you are wasting your time. Nothing that has happened in the past matters anymore. The only thing that matters to the GOP is obstruction. Country be damned. Rule of law be damned.
They're turning us into Bolivia.
