Default tasty+spicy restaurant in El Paso

hi
This question is for El Paso'ns who travel out of the city. The one thing I miss being in el paso is good food. I travel to Austin, and there is thai-spice, there is clay-pot, there is chuy's, there is Z'tejas, tinos greek, etc.. etc..

There was this burrito place near tea tree massage/albertson which are really good, spicy burritos, which got replaced by schlotzsky's. I have tried most asian resturants, and no come up the tast of a non-elpasoan asian restaurant I have visited in Ausin, Houston, San Francisco, Portland, Dallas.
Koze, is a small exception. Maria Chuchena also closed down here..

Any other good recomendations...

I saw some chicos-tacos talk here, and initially felt it would be like the dirty place in San Francisco called Shalimar, which has exceptional food (for the taste), but it was dirty, as well as the food was also not that great..

I guess, no good resident girls here, but I hope at least I could find some good food.

SJ...

I am assuming you are looking for mostly non-mexican good restaurants in El Paso? First bit of advice - sign up for yelp, it helps whenever I travel, which is too much. Here is a list of some of my favorites (some of everything I think).

Try Tara Thai (Cincinnati St. Restaurants in general are pretty good). Some others: Pot Au Feu, Crave, Geogeske's, Kiki's, Delicious Mexican Eatery, L&J's, Mi Piacci, Edge of Texas Steakhouse, Chutney, Craw, Cincinnati St Bar & Grill, Ardivino's (both the pizza places and the desert crossing).

Good luck.

Grumpy, you nailed it. Those would be my choices as well as the following:

The Garden

Cafe Central
http://www.cafecentral.com/menus.php

Billy Crews (in the Lounge) where you can listen to live music, choose from the most extensive wine list in Texas and munch on awesome food.

Ardovino's Dessert Crossing (my favorite)

Crust (run by the previous owners of 2900)
http://www.gotocrust.com/

Ripe Eatery
http://ripeeatery.com/

Travel down the road to Old Mesilla for some of the best food in the area. It's a fun Sunday drive down highway 28 for a scenic view.

Oh ... one more ... a hole in the wall called Valentines serves up bone marrow tacos that will have your eyes rolling into the back of your head. Then have a drink on the patio of Hope and Anchor next door. http://hopeandanchorelpaso.com/

Thanks... I dont mind any food, even mexican, so long it is appreciated by many as 'tasty'.

eg, in the SF Bay area if you try to go to a place called "banana leaf" in milpitas on a weekday without reservation, you are easly waiting like 30-90min... AND people will wait for that long, no matter what...

Bone-Marrow Tacos, that sounds like "brain masala"
...

Its not fancy but the chimichangas and tacos Antonia at Lucy's are great. Flautas or just about anything at Fortis Mexican Elder. On Thursdays the Greenery has a killer Cream of Chile Poblano soup. Just up the road, on the way to Mesilla is Chope's in La Union. In Mesilla you have La Posta and Double Eagle/Peppers on the Plaza. El Rincon Del Cortez, near UTEP and also near Cielo Vista Mall make some great Tacos Deshebrada and Steak Tacos. Great American on Alabama is still probably the best steakhouse in town (not the Great American Steakburgers, they're different) kind of an intown version of Cattlemen's out in Fabens. As for Chico's well, it one of those "its late and I'm hungry and I'm to drunk to really know the difference" kind of places. Oh the enchiladas at Kikis on Piedras are great as well.

What about Andale's on I-10 (Hawkins exit I believe). Whenever in El Paso we eat there. Beef enchiladas w/green sauce is pretty dang good. Oh, and the Jalapeño Poppers are to die for! They even have live music.

Frankly speaking SF has too much cuisine to talk point at one... if you keep trying the best you will get exausted but you wont finish...

tried the bone-marrows, were different, good.
