Why should Republicans accept tax increases that happen automatically for some unspecified cuts in the future ?
That was what Bohner's Plan B was (my understanding)...It was an plan that was doomed to fail.

I am not ecstatic about the way the election turned out, but I have a serious problem with your attitude. The majority spoke. I think they are seriously naïve. But are you saying the majority should not rule? That you don’t believe in our government system? Who do you want to take the vote away from: women, minorities, or some other group?
“If my candidate didn’t win, if the election didn’t go my way, I’m going to give up!” That’s your message.
Suggestion: if you really feel that way—that “your country” was murdered—then maybe you should emigrate. I’m not saying you like the outcome, but you either abide by the rules and try to tell your story better next time (or kick out the RWWs so you have a humane story many of us fiscal conservatives can vote for). For all those on here who yell about Obama moving towards a dictatorship, YOU are arguing for a military coup.

This is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. The majority are not supposed to get whatever they want regardless of whether it's constitutional or not.
The country is bankrupt because corrupt liberal politicians refuse to honor their oath of office to abide by the Constitution. The so called "entitlement programs" are bankrupting us and all of them are unconstitutional.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."

Actually, so long as something is constitutional, the majority IS supposed to get what it wants. That's why we have votes. What is the alternative? Minority wins?

The entitlement programs are unwise, but they are not unconstitutional. Congress has plenary power to spend money, I'm afraid.
The problem is only partially the politicians' fault. The problem is primarily the average ignorant American who will reliably vote to increase his own benefits, but doesn't know or care where the money comes from.
Do you have an answer to the ignorance of millions?
Selling rugged individualism to the electorate is a difficult task under the best of circumstances. They'd rather hear promises of rainbows and cotton-candy.

You didn't actually read my post did you? Re-read the second sentence of my post and this time pay attention. Of course the majority gets what it wants, limited only by whether or not it's constitutional. The problem is that the majority is getting whatever it wants regardless of the constitution.
