Santa Fe man agrees to euthanize pet dog after it mauls his father

The owner says he couldn't believe his pit bull killed his father. KOB's Jill Galus reports.

In the past week, Gavin Wright has lost two members of his household: Clifford, his father; then Achilles, the pit bull he had raised since puppyhood.
Last Thursday, Achilles, a dark brown pit bull with a streak of white fur running down his chest, attacked and killed Wright's father.


"I just got home from work. I live with my father. I take care of him. He's there on the front porch. It looks like my dog got him, for whatever reason. I don't f***ing know what happened!" Wright, 27, screamed to a 911 operator.
In tapes obtained by NBC affiliate KOB.com, Wright becomes increasingly frantic as he describes his 74-year-old dad.
“They can't save him, dude,” Wright tells the dispatcher. “He's got a hole, there's blood! He's gone, dude! My dad is torn up with flies on him."

The people who own these dogs are basically nuts, overcompensating for something...wanting to be the "Big Dog" but not knowing how to raise or control their desires.

With the people I first hand know who have owned this breed, they all relinquished their dogs to the SPCA or City Pound after it attacked a child, another dog or threatened the neighborhood.

This guy should be charged with involuntary manslaughter of his father.

Too true for too many. There are exceptions, but most people, IMO, are adopting these dogs to enhance their personal status without regard for what it takes to raise and control them.

I'm sure there are plenty of pitbulls that are wonderful pets, but the reputation they carry is not something I would want to take a risk with. I think sometimes people get pitbulls for the same reason they get a monster truck, sports car, pec implants. It boosts their self esteme.

if people are drawn to these dogs because of the way hollywood and pop culture / obamba supporters

and seeing how wamma bamma ding dong is going to be a tGeorge Cooneys this weekend, maybe he could talk about animal rights some/ and tell these hollywood actors to tone it down a bit

hey, our President of these United States has advocated eating dogs, I havnt heard anything from Peta so i guess their on board with it.ssoooo,

why not instead of dropping these dead pitbulls off at the landfill they butcher them, freeze em up and send them off to nigeria for humanitarian relief?..

kill two birds with one stones,, help reduce landfill waste and feed a village..problema solved!!!
