Dallas County health department conducting two-day HIV testing tour at Dallas-area colleges

sjacobson@dallasnews.com A two-day HIV-testing tour targeting young people--particularly black men--began today at four Dallas-area colleges.
The tour is sponsored by Dallas County Health and Human Services and the Black AIDS Institute, a think tank focused on black people and AIDS.
The testing comes at a time when Dallas County has a high HIV-infection rate among young black men, which has alarmed public health officials and members of the local AIDS service community. However, this group is focusing on a larger demographic including women.
The effort will “fight AIDS’ stigma, raise awareness about the magnitude of
HIV/AIDS in the community and encourage black people in Dallas to get tested for HIV," said PhillÖ Wilson, president of the Black AIDS Institute.
Testing began today at El Centro College and
Paul Quinn College. It will continue Tuesday at Cedar Valley College (Building M, Room 114; 9:30-10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m.) and Mountain View College (Building D, Room W 181 and W 183; 2-4 p.m.)
