Default Third Person Buffalonian TV

JC is not a long time Buffalonian but he's about to choose a new home entertainment supplier. He's not impressed with Time Warner over the past year, but they aren't out of the running either. Dish, Direct TV, Fios? Netflix/Hulu?

JC also needs home Internet to banter on eccie. Must stream high quality movies, no child lock needed, frequent porn. No phone service needed.

What do the discerning gentlemen of Buffalo consider the best service in the area?

JC is frugal and open minded.

I switched from Time Warner to Verizon FIOS three years ago and have been quite satisfied with it. It is not a controlled study, but I seem to experience more reliable service with fewer outages.

They all suck.
I'm stuck with Time Warner because Verizon FIOS is still not available in my area.

With a high speed cable or FIOS modem you can do it all. You have no need for HBO, Showtime, etc and Netflix and Hulu. Just Google, 'The Top 25 Sites to Watch Free Movies and TV Online', to see everything for free with no commercials. Many of those sites also include full XXX porn movies. I even watched the blacked out Bills games of last season.

With these free online steaming sites you can watch movies from 2013 going back to the 40s. Many TV shows are there both oldies and new. Along with all the porn you could ever desire.

If FIOS is available in your neighborhood, sign up yesterday.
The biggest problem with FIOS is it's limited availability.
If it's available... sign up.

I just chewed out Verizon HQ a couple days ago, asking WTF is the hold up!
Been trying to get FIOS for a couple years now but Verizon is dragging their ass on stringing up FIOS cables nearby!

Wonder if they are having some tech problems that may be causing these delays?

With FIOS they have stopped the role out to all other areas. It has shown to not be feasible for them to do so based on "penetration" rates (yes said that on this board). They are however the fastest and most reliable of the services if your looking for internet and tV service combined. Keep in mind though, that the fios tv signal is simply direct tv over a Fios line. For my best advice, you cant be directv. you have the NFL sunday ticket that is only available on it, MSG for all the sabres games (not on dish). They have the best options for telelvision on the market. They do not however offer any type of decent internet. There is hughes net, but that will not work given what you want to download.
One bit of advice. in this brave new world of internet, no matter who you go with, keep in mind that who ever you chose WILL monitor your Bandwidth limits. you could see a significant charge one day for overages if your not careful. The days of unlimited bandwidth are done. Also, big brother is wathching so make sure that the kind of adult movies your watching are stricly adult. They have a right to report anyone who they feel is downloading or hosting sites that produce or distibute any type of underage "stuff".

JaP is correct on that.
They haven't expanded in quite some time.
I used to call them every month and they kept telling me "soon" and we're getting closer and closer to your neighborhood. I finally ran into someone who worked for them... and that is their dirty little secret... they are not expanding at all. And forget EVER seeing them if you are in the city proper.
The guy who enlightened me told me that running FIOS wires ran into the millions of dollars per mile.
I happened to move into an area where FIOS was already installed. It's a multiple unit complex in the West Seneca area. I think there are 20+ buildings with 12 units in each building.
All of the apartments are FIOS Ready.... sort of.
The FIOS lines run into each basement building. If you order FIOS... they send the tech over etc.
I was watching the tech do his job and it was quite interesting to me that while the building was wired.... they did NOT run FIOS wire into each individual apartment. What they did was create a "Dummy Box" in each apartment, and into that "dummy box", they fished a plain ordinary string through the walls etc.
If someone orders FIOS, they then tie the FIOS Wires to the string and then pull the wires etc. The tech guy told me that the cost of running the actual wire was very expensive, so they don't run the actual wire until someone orders the service.

On an additional note:
The price of the service got really expensive after the first year when my free DVR and other incentives ran out. The price got unaffordable after two years.
So I called retention... and the best they could do was $10 off.
So... I switched to Time Warner and got my bill back down to $100 (includes taxes etc) for internet, phone and tv. (My Gawd was TW slow in comparison to FIOS).
Two months after switching to TW... lo and behold there was an offer from FIOS hanging on my front door with a $79 a month promotion.
I called and had the sales girl come over and ended up paying about $105 (again including taxes fees etc) for everything I wanted with a price guarantee of two years. Also got a $100 visa gift card, $100 Amazon Gift Card and a ten dollar Wegmans gift card.
I asked her if I was gonna have to switch over to TW again in two years in order for her to renew me at my present rate.

I assume she didn't have an answer to your last question, but is there a review on this sales girl, you sly devil?

At least when the hobby boards are lame we can discuss cars, cable and condoms.

Being in the business and working for one of the companies, the best thing to is shop every year and get a full quote on what the services will cost. Never believe the ads. just about every come has equipment fees. Time Warner is the only one who does not require a contract and offers free service calls. Fios is pretty good, especially if they just came to your area. Once the initial offer is up, the price skyrockets, but you can get a really good deal for a year or two. Not really impressed with Dish Or Direct because they basically saddle you with verizon internet. You have to pay for a home phone and the internet speeds pale in comparison to Fios or Time Warner. Feel free to pm me if you want more details.

Another detail. Fios runs fiber optic lines directly to your house. Once in the house, it's all standard coax cable. Time Warner runs fiber optics to the pole and then coax to the house. So you are really talking about maybe 50 to 100 feet of difference. That is microseconds nowadays.
