We have background checks already.....I think 99.9% of all gun sales involve a background check.

Except when you are Attorney General Holder selling guns to the narco terrorists, then no background check needed !

"Universal Background Check".
You decide to give your grandson a old 22 you have had for 45 years.
You loan a friend you 30-06 to go hunting.
At your Gun Club, you buy a firearm from a friend.
You give your wife a nice 9mm for her birthday.
You company, (in the South), gives you a nice Remington 700 as a retirement gift.
And the senario could go on.

If you are a law abiding citzen, what's the harm of a back ground check?? The only people that should be against them are criminals.............. are you one of those? A back ground check doesn't make you a criminal...................... ... it makes sure you aren't one! Which is something as a law abiding citizen you should be proud to prove.

And I've yet to see a story about a guy going on a killing spree with a 9 iron!

I have good reason to believe that criminals don't care about a background check, so the only people who will get caught with a weapon without a background check is a criminal, who doesn't give a rat's ass (sorry rat) anyway about them.

That's a circle jerk.

As for "a 9 iron" ... I think they stick to putters for the most part.

I honestly don't know the numbers (and am too lazy to do any deep searching on it), but what percentage of guns in the US legally sold are done at gun shows?

I would assume a fair amount given that there's so much drama over the gun show loophole?

According to both Sen. Schumer and Chief Johnson today durig the hearings 1.7 million criminals stopped from getting a gun by legal means since 1994 until 2009 due to background checks, so I guess not all criminals are smart enough to get a gun illegally.

. . . and Odumbo et al are doing a piss poor job prosecuting those criminals who are caught trying to buy guns!

Both Sides in Gun Debate Agree: Punish Background-Check Liars

WASHINGTON — Nearly 80,000 Americans were denied guns in 2010, according to Justice Department data, because they lied or provided inaccurate information about their criminal histories on background-check forms. Yet only 44 of those people were charged with a crime.

The staggeringly low number of prosecutions for people who “lie and try,” as it is called by law enforcement officials . . ."
