Default Female Condoms and Male Blisters

So recently, I was with a provider who used a female condom – my first experience with one of these contraptions, and I have mixed feelings about it. It was a rather nice experience, far more “natural” than a male condom. I was able to feel more, given that my appendage wasn’t crammed into a latex compression-bandage.

However, I felt a certain soreness just a few hours later, a slight burning sensation, and woke up this morning with a couple of rather large blisters. One about the size of a nickel on the bottom-left just below the head, the other about the size of a dime about halfway down the right side.

Needless to say, this is not a very good situation, and I’ll be sitting on the bench for a while (not much of a problem, as I only hobby about twice a month so I have a couple weeks to heal up and be ready for the next game) but something I’d like to avoid in future. I do like the feel of the female condom, but would prefer to avoid this side-effect.

Worthwhile to mention, it was not a particularly vigorous session – K9 position with long, slow strokes for about ten minutes, maybe a bit of rapid short-stroking as the moment arrived. She did use coconut oil instead of the more purpose-specific lubes, so that could have been a factor.

I did an Internet search and did not see this mentioned as a potential side effect (they do warn about irritation but not blisters), and have not seen any first-person reports of similar problems. So I’d like to know if anyone here (customer or provider) has had a similar problem, or might suggest what could be done to prevent it happening again.

Maybe you're allergic to coconut oil?

Use a water based lube next time. I agree, you may be allergic to the coconut oil.

Some oils break down latex/nitrile. Could be that coconut oil is one.

Wesson oil breaks down nitrile, making it stiff and loose elasticity.

I have wondered about female condoms, what they feel like, what lube to use.

Now I know to at least avoid coconut oil.

Thanks for the info.

I wasn't aware of it, but that might be the case.

My favorite lubes are pure body glide and über lube.

Yikes! If I were in this position, I would get tested... Both for an allergy and the worse things. Sorry that happened to you!

Have a kid broke out in blisters on his hands from coconut oil. I very much think it could have been an allergic reaction. Providers should always use water based and hypo allergenic lubes, gels and massage lotions because what is comfortable and safe for one client may not be for the next and sometimes the consequences could be more serious unfortunately especially in extreme cases. Take care of your clients health and safety as well as you do of your own.

I agree that it is most likely an allergy to the coconut allergy. That said to be on the safe side i'd suggest getting tested.

Thanks, all. I’ll chalk it up to a reaction to the coconut oil.

I’m still not entirely sold – I don’t have any food allergies and tolerate coconut just fine. The oil was all over me, but I only had two spots that were affected – I was thinking it was friction from the thicker “rings” on the ends of the female condom.

But on the other hand, I’ve seen no mention of blistering with the device, but there are mentions of blistering from bad reactions to coconut oil, so it seems a likely culprit.

Anyway, I may try the female condom if it’s offered again (no coconut oil, though) and see if the problem recurs. But likely not for a while.

You may not have an allergy to coconut but keep one thing in mind. Oils are pure concentrate no matter what it's derived from. I watched "How it's made" on how they made Mike & Ikes and the Cinnamon Oil the poured into the vat was so concentrated that a few drops on the skin could give 2nd degree burns and blisters.

Penile skin is more sensitive to other areas. The mild friction may be negligible in most cases but the mild friction in the condom rubbing the oil into the pores of the skin is what can do it.

I've has similar experiences with other oils on other parts of my body due to the friction rubbing the oils into the pores. They were just zit like looking pustuals but that was the body's way of getting it out of my body. Had another experience where Teflon dust was rubbed into my pores due to friction. Was a very miserable experience.

I'd purchase some Coconut oil, place a few drops here and there, maybe rub it in in a place or two and see what reaction you get. That'll save you a trip to the doctor plus you will know if you have any immediate reaction and wash it off with alcohol.

I have problems with certain lubricants and spermacides on different brands of condoms. Once had some spermicide go into my pee hole and it felt like someone shoved a lit match up there.

I've experience the female condom once. I did not like it. It felt like she did not put it in correctly and I could feel it bunching up inside as if the head of my wee little one was rubbing against a fold in the latex. I had her remove and used a regular condom.

I use them often and have never had any gentlemen come back and tell me of any issues afterwards. Sounds like a reaction to the coconut oil in combination with the friction. Sorry you had a bad experience with the female condom, they really are amazing when used properly. 😉
