Now the Playboy mansion has been sold. The stock was taken off the
market several years ago in a buyout. They no longer offer nudes in
their magazines.

The business was doomed a long time ago when the internet came.

My girl looked at my playboys more than I did. She loved the articles. I got the subscription cheap at the time. Never really opened up one myself. Kinda like video killed the radio star, internet killed the porno mag.

I was never a regular subscriber but it seemed like the last ten years or so anytime I picked up an issue it just seemed like they didn't have much in the way of talent behind the camera. It just seemed like it was lacking something.

I wonder, if you had a pool of photographers who were really looking to push the medium and be unique, could a magazine or online magazine that offered nude pictorials be successful today when hardcore porn is so ubiquitous?

I don't think it would. Back in the day when no one made anything like it yep it was great. To sell today it would have to be something people just can't see. I can't think of what that might be but it would probably be illegal. Even then hell everything is on the internet. I wonder how the other adult mags are doing like hustler, and penthouse, are they still around? I picked up some day labor guys one of them had dirty magazine pages lol, not the whole book just pages. Thought then how long it's been since I'd even seen one.

You have to say the reason is not they want to be more like Maxim.

The reason is they couldn't make money selling magazines with nude photos. As the
saying goes, "Now everything is just a click away."

What happened to the tapes? Supposedly Hef had video cameras pointing to his famed circular bed that he used to record encounters with the Playmates. My understanding is several tapes have made it out of the vault but were reeled back in.

I can't believe the place is that secure anymore.
