Default Clarification - Guideline 37

#27 - Often times in online communities, members may display a tendency towards bringing their conflicts with other members to the board. This will be strongly discouraged and swift effort will be made to put it to rest. Additionally, staff will make every effort to stay uninvolved in conflicts and disputes between members off the board except in such cases where the board becomes directly affected.

This policy appears to contradict itself. How can staff both make every effort to stay uninvolved in conflicts and disputes between members, but also make swift effort to put them to rest? They can't "put them to rest" without getting involved, can they? The bit about the board becoming directly affected doesn't clarify anything, because anything posted directly affects the board.

So, is this just saying that staff does whatever they want according to their own personal whim when handling conflicts? Are they accountable to some specific portion of this guideline, or do they just pick and choose the parts they like or agree with?

I think putting it to rest means stopping it on the board as soon as they see what's going on.

Well, there have been many occasions where our moderation staff hasn't done that. Here, for example.. So it seems to suggest that the guideline is selectively enforced.

I'm just thankful the site is up and running and everyone seems to be getting along...

Name any guideline that isn't "selectively enforced"......

Well, true. Some more overtly than others, however.
