LiberalDevil has inspired me
He's the only guy I've ever seen on here that owns who he is as far as being a socialist. None of you American posters own that title.
I have a running table bet that this is not actually possible but could we please have a sane discussion on socialism?
The first question I have is... Why are you for socialism? I mean government socialism. I truly want to understand your thinking on this. And thank you LD for being man enough to own it.

Hmmm, now we're back at the "if you don't agree with me you are a socialist" game again. I'm gonna have to sic Ron White on ya.

Well, there went the reasonable discussion out the window on the second post. Sorry Kayla, it's been tried here before, and failed. These guys would rather see who can be the most creative in insulting the other's sexual preference, rather than discuss an issue.

Guess you're not using the same language as I am, there coG. Maybe if I recorded as speech what I worte and played it backwards it might come out as "I buried Paul," too. But, there is, as usual, no "there" there to your pointless rants. Sexual orientation or preference was never mentioned. Fear not, I'm not confused. Hell, it came from you.
Yep, like this thread passes as "reasonable" with the premise stated as it was. Things aren't looking too good when by the FOURTH post the "innocent victim" card gets played.

Ignore randy. He's a troll. Don't feed him. He will twist it on purpose. I'm not interested in anything his fingers have to say.
Cj I specifically said government socialism. The idea that the government knows best how to use my money and take care of its people cradle to grave.
Y'all quit making it something it's not. LD if you and I are the only ones that talk, that's fine with me. They can bullshit around us. I offer my sincere wish to understand you. Buggar all else.

Accepting help for 6 months and then taking the reins to do it yourself is not socialism. I don't think any human in this country would fault someone for taking the help and using it to get back on your feet, as socialism. It's the nanny lifers this is about.
Y'all please don't be as absolutely mindblowingly retarded as Dallas was in the review thread.

That is what a huge part of our (right) argument is about. I keep saying we probably agree on more than anyone thincks if we could just get past the party crap. I WANT to understand. If any of you on the left care even a tinsy about really talking, this is your chance. I know there has to be SOMEONE that actually cares enough to talk and not berate ?

I agree completely. It's refreshing to hear the views of someone who actually admits he's a socialist. It is possible to be a socialist and not be evil. Many socialists are well meaning, just wrong.
I was a left winger in college and well into my twenties. I actually voted for McGovern way back in 1972 (god I'm so old).
I think there's a lot of truth to the old saying attributed to Churchill, that if you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart and if you're not a conservative at forty, you have no brain.
One of my favorite political writers is David Horowitz. He was a communist until he was forty when he completely did a 180 and became a Reagan Republican. He found out that a close friend of his had been murdered by the Black Panthers. When he discovered that his radical friends knew about the murder and covered it up for political reasons, Horowitz began to suspect that he was on the wrong path politically.

I'd like to understand too, but for the life of me I cant get past the simple fact the right not only has the propensity, but insists, then lauds spending billions of dollars of taxpayer $$$ every month so some third world puke can have a purple thumb, YET balk, and squeal like a pig stuck in a gate when a severely handicapped 3 year old childs parents who cant afford to take care of her/him accept medicare money to keep the child alive.
rail against the first part of the scenario and youre a tratior ... favor the latter, and youre a socialist.
guess Im a socialist traitor

I don't know any conservative that wants the truly needy to suffer, particularly not children. What conservatives do have a problem with is massive welfare spending on people that don't actually need help but choose to parasite off of their hard working neighbors.
When I hear that "illegal aliens are only doing the jobs that Americans just won't do anymore" it just makes me furious. The reason Americans won't do hard physical labor at modest pay is because we give them the option of living on welfare or working. You'd be amazed at how hard people will work when they have a choice of working or not eating; if you're an able bodied adult, that should be the choice.

And I, for one, am tired of the nanny state, and our overblown military industrial complex. If left to myself, I am more generous than the government, more caring than the government, and more thrifty than the government. I don't need government to tell me how to spend my money.
Do we need a national defense? Yes, but we don't need a nation building empire.
Do we need roads and bridges? Sure, but not to nowhere.
But these liberal "helping" policies just keep more and more people under the government's thumb, and their dependency creates compliance, and compliance equals votes for those who promise to maintain or increase the level of funds from the government to those already dependent. And as more people become dependent on government, others near the cutoff line for assistance start to think that they are wasting their time being productive, and slowly but surely, the line of demarcation between dependency and productivity climbs higher, until now we have slightly over 50% of the population dependent on government for at least part of their subsistence.
When they figure out they are a majority, the rush on the Treasury will be huge, and since we are on the edge of an economic collapse, this will push us over the edge.
And the M-I-C loves the nation building. It increases their coffers, while it fills families' coffins. Maintaining an empire is a profitable activity, and these contractors pretty much own the White House and Congress, along with Goldman Sachs and Wall Street. Do you really think the people have any say in what goes on anymore?
Nope. I don't like socialism.

The majority will always vote themselves "largess from the treasury". Thats why democracies always fail and why the founding fathers set us up as a republic. You have to have a constitution that limits the size and scope of government services and stops politicians from pandering for votes.
Unfortunately, almost no one honors their oath of office to uphold and defend the constitution any more. Without a constitution you're left with mob rule.
