It would have been better if they had used a crane to get her out.

Looking at the photos it appears that she fell through a covering over the sidewalk and on side appears to have been poorly reinforced. My bet is shoddy workmanship and skimping on materials.
I would not be surprised if the crane used did not collapse since NYC seems to have an abundance of shoddy cranes more than likely due to corruption and union sabotage.
