NBC Sports goes PC
At the begining of Sunday's final round of the US Open Golf Championship; NBC Sports edited out the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZIDvLJhSOE
They issued a BS "apology" claiming they didn't mean to offend; but never owned up to why they made the deletion.
Watch the video; they pull at all the patriotic strings, and leave out the God reference in homage to their atheists tendecies....and keep in mind that the tournament was held at the Congressional Country Club, a very upscale private club which many Congressional and other powerbrokers belong.
Why the Golf Channel has teamed up with NBC Sports in offering golf programming is beyond me. I thought with Arnold Palmer in command of the Golf Channel that this kind of creeping liberalism wouldn't happen...
Is this a sign of how they will handle the Olympics and other events? Golf is now an olympic sport.

I'm not a religious person of any kind... but I thought that was awfully chickenshit , especially considering it was the U.S. OPEN for Keeeeerist's Sake!!
Regardless.... Cory Mcllroy Rocked !! * Pretty damned impressive!!

The original "pledge" has been changed on four occasions since it was written by a Socialist minister, Francis Bellamy, in 1892. He wrote it for any citizen of any country to pledge allegiance to their own nation's flag.
Three of the changes to the pledge were verbal but perhaps the most significant change was a change in the traditional U.S. salute made during WWII because it was felt that the commonly used salute appeared to be too much like the Nazi salute with the right hand extended toward the flag palm down.
The original saluting method began with the hand over the heart but when the words "to the Flag" were recited, the hand was to be moved from over the heart to the palm down position pointing toward the flag.
While the words of the pledge remained the same, written instructions on a new salute were agreed upon and passed by Congress as section 4 of the Flag Code.
The Pledge was first changed to reflect allegiance to both the flag and to the country for which it stood in 1923.
The Nazi-style salute was abandoned during the second World War.
The phrase "Under God" was added in 1954 despite the objections of the original author's daughter.
Contrary to popular belief, "the Pledge of Allegiance" containing the words "the United States of America" was penned and adopted over one hundred years after Francis Scott Key wrote the poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" which was later set to music.
The Pledge, in its current form, is roughly 57 years old.
History of "the Pledge" http://wwwDOTushistoryDOTorg/documents/pledge.htm after you click on the link and get an incorrect address in your browser's address bar, simply change both "DOT'S" to periods and hit enter again. I'm not fond of posting "hot"or working links that show this site as the referring site. I think we all should think about that.

I almost had an orgasm Stevie Wonder and a history nut for a second lol.
You are correct. There have been political changes to the Pledge. Does it change the allegiance one declares to honor and affirm the Flag and the State that it symbolizes? No. Do I agree with tinkering with the Pledge? No. I say this for one reason. Primarily, I am I am American and with it’s warts, I love this country. I grew up with reciting the Pledge with under God in the verbiage. At this point, the Pledge as it stands is tradition to the overwhelming majority of Americans living today.
Even so I’m wholly secular and vehemently non-Christian, I think that pissy, little PC nonsense needs to be left out of a Pledge. There was no real reason to add it; I see no real reason to delete it. Almost everyone has a God.

It was added at the height of the Cold War to emphasize yet another difference between the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. The U.S.S.R. professed atheism while the U.S. had its roots in Christianity.
NBC was blatantly wrong for editing the pledge and blatantly insincere in its apology.

Yes, I am aware of that. My whole point is that even so I'm non-Christian, PC changes is tinkering with something that is tradition now. 1954 was almost 60 years ago. The Cold War - that I grew up in - is over, but several generations of Americans have grown up with the Pledge as it is now. Must EVERYTHING be touched by the dirty, faux-saniclensing of PC?

Funny, I thought the US welcomed people of all faiths or of no faith. Silly me!
"Our roots in Christianity"! Sound like rich manure that would make good potting soil. We "had our roots" in slavery and the slave trade, only male property owners voting, etc. but we grew out of that!

Wow. Do you really give a shit?
Guys on a hooker board complaining about the removal of a reference to God on TV.
Next thing ya know, you'll be complaining about the threat of homosexuals to the sanctity of marriage.

Add to that tobacco and the fur trade. Fascinating thing about manure; sometimes, it has a way of reconstituting itself through the food chain. You didn’t out grow it. Your eating it. All that you cherish and hold dear has its origins in that manure you so despise.

Why? Their network, they can do as they please. What happened to 'Land of the Free'? Deregulation? You want a law saying you have to say the pledge correctly? WTF is it you whiners want?
You guys talk a good game until someone disagree's with you, then it is Katy barr the door!
Fox promotes views of folks that expout our President is a Muslim.
You two wacko's don't seem to have a problem with that.
Who gives a fuc about the pledge. I care about my rights as a citizen not whether it is 'right' of NBC tp edit wtf they please. You have a right to complain, I have a right to say it is much ado about nothing.

Why bother to do the thing if you’re not going to do it as written? But I imagine you’ve grown used to NBC, et al, similarly editing the news for you and succoring you with their saccharin pabulum of half-truths and omissions. Mediocrity begets mediocrity.
