Default Hobby Lobby Invests In Numerous Abortion And Contraception Products While Claiming Religious Objection

Stunning and appalling hypocrisy. I hope women take notice and speak loudly during the next Presidential general election.

In what just may be the most stunning example of hypocrisy in my lifetime, Mother Jones has uncovered numerous investments on the part of Hobby Lobby’s retirement fund in a wide variety of companies producing abortion and contraception related products.

Remarkably, the contraceptive devices and products that so offend the religious beliefs of this family are manufactured by the very companies in which Hobby Lobby holds a substantial stake via their employee 401(k) plan.

As I suspect many readers will find this as hard to believe and digest as I, the data can be confirmed by reviewing the company’s 2012 Annual Report of Employee Benefit Plan as filed with the Department of Labor.

According to the Green family, interfering with an already fertilized egg is tantamount to abortion—an act unacceptable to the family and one they refuse to participate in no matter what the Affordable Care Act may require .

However, it turns out that the owners of Hobby Lobby do not appear to have any problem with profiting from the companies that manufacture the very products that so grievously offend their religious principles.

The following is a summation of the companies manufacturing these products that are held by the Hobby Lobby employee retirement plan, as set forth by Ms. Redden’s remarkable reporting:

Quote:
These companies include Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, which makes Plan B and ParaGard, a copper IUD, and Actavis ACT +1.12%, which makes a generic version of Plan B and distributes Ella. Other holdings in the mutual funds selected by Hobby Lobby include Pfizer PFE +0.84%, the maker of Cytotec and Prostin E2, which are used to induce abortions; Bayer , which manufactures the hormonal IUDs Skyla and Mirena; AstraZeneca AZN +0.83%, which has an Indian subsidiary that manufactures Prostodin, Cerviprime, and Partocin, three drugs commonly used in abortions; and Forest Laboratories, which makes Cervidil, a drug used to induce abortions. Several funds in the Hobby Lobby retirement plan also invested in Aetna AET +0.31% and Humana, two health insurance companies that cover surgical abortions, abortion drugs, and emergency contraception in many of the health care policies they sell.

When added up, the nine funds holding the stated investments involve three-quarters of Hobby Lobby’s 401(k) assets.

^ It's amazing to have the unmitigated gall to espouse such views when you're scheming off the top. These people have no moral compass or convictions they're like Saddam Hussein just hacks and political opportunists.

You forgot to include the fact that Hobby Lobby also imports a ton of their merchandise from China, so clearly China's one child policy does not bother them one bit.

I'm sorry to say that you are all grasping at straws. Number one, I don't believe anything Mother Jones has to say about anything. Number two, this was about abortion drugs and NOT contraception drugs. Number three, this was about religious freedom and not healthcare. As for investments, the world is so diverse today it is down right impossible to invest in anything without being invested in something that you want no part of but then you the investor have no choice. Hobby Lobby is looking to make a profit for their employees and their investment firm is doing that. Does it bother anyone that HL pays twice the minimum wage to their people? How about the fact that HL was giving women contraceptive health care BEFORE Obamacare came along?

This case was about RFRA (Religious Freedom and Recovery Act) signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993 and supported by almost every democrat in the House and Senate. That includes Pelosi among so many others.

Your plausible deniability theory on behalf of HL is absolutely hilarious.

You may not trust Mother Jones but you can't argue with the Dept. of Labor:

and as for your "we live in a diverse world theory" all I have to say is "Touche" as it would be nice if HL understood that fact and had the same level of respect for their employee 'religious beliefs' as they want others to have for theirs.

Yep. Most Republicans have no moral compass even though they hilariously claim they're the party of family values. For example, they do nothing to stem the tide of deaths due to gun violence or world wars where people die but they swear by God that abortion is morally wrong. They viciously fight to protect the embryo but once it's born they go all out by finding ways to stop Social and Food programs that benefits many of the same kids.

It's like Bill Maher said when comparing kids to embryo's...If an embryo can be safely put in a freezer and left indefinitely then it cannot be compared to a child. if so how many people with kids would fore-go a baby sitter and opt for the freezer instead. - LOL

Cept everyone else isn't espousing family values and trying to shove their beliefs down another's throat.

Hobby lobby is not trying to shove their beliefs down any bodies throat.

They simply object to paying for certain types of birth control.

The people who object can simply buy their own birth control if they wish to use one that is not included in the plan.

What is so difficult to understand about this?

As for the products from China. Don't shop there. Simple

No, we just don't go along with liberal tactics that have proven not to work.

It's their business. They should be able to decide. If you don't like it, shop or work somewhere else.
