Pickup Lines

The pickup line is a part of the overall flirting history, the cornerstone of the first impression, and the inspiration for about a million jokes. When considering an approach, a man will spend a great deal of time attempting to formulate the perfect opener, which can lead to many headaches. The reason? Everything can depend on the pickup line: It sets the tone, it’s an introduction wrapped up in one sentence and it puts the ensuing conversation (if there is one) on a particular path.

Even the best pickup lines, however, don't translate to an automatic sexcapade. Rather, it’s more about creating that first impression, and depends on a man's observational skills and ability to adapt on the fly. In this way, the "pickup line" isn't merely an opening statement designed to generate interest, it's a brief and succinct method of getting your foot in the door. You won’t ever hit a home run with one line, but you can give yourself plenty of options as the discussion progresses. In short, a pickup line can put a twinkle in her eye… the perfect building block.

A dancer walks into the DJ booth at a strip club where I'm talking to the DJ friend of mine. She and I have never met, I tell her I'll pick her music, she smiles and goes back the dressing room. I go out to my car and pick up the CD I had just bought and offer it to my buddy the DJ. The album was Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral and released that very day.
