Dogs, maybe; when I lived with a trio of Siberian huskies* I didn't even bother to lock the door.
*Note that huskies are incredibly sweet, not territorial, possessive or aggressive, and that if someone actually did break in they'd be smiling and friendly and perfectly happy to show him where the safe was in return for peanut butter; emphatically not good watchdogs. BUT! They *look* like wolves, very discouraging. If security was your primary reason for getting a dog much better breed choices are available.
