ECCIE Tips & Tricks
No doubt many of you are struggling as I am trying to familiarize myself this board.
Here are links to specific help topics on:
General Forum Usage
Help Reading and Posting Messages
BB Code help
Yesterday Musman offered a tip on formatting text by highlighting and then clicking the button for the feature you want to use.
As we "discover" new features, let's let everybody know what we found and how to use it.
If anyone knows where to find a guide to the menu bar, PLEASE post it here!
Thanks,
SeaDog

How To Use Multi-Quote:
Go to the first post in a thread that you want to quote and click "MULTI-QUOTE".
Goto the next post you want to quote and click "MULTI-QUOTE".
When you have collected all the posts you want to quote in your reply, goto the end of the thread (after the last post) and click "REPLY".
You may then edit the quotes and insert your own text before or after each quote.
Anyone figure out any other features - no matter how simple it seems - please let us know about it.
Thanks

Editing Fonts, Colors, etc.
I posted this tip in another thread, but this looks like the right place to put it. In Eccie it is much easier than ASPD to edit font size, color, bold, italics, etc. as well as putting PRIVATE or HTML tags around text. I discovered this by hovering my cursor over "PRIVATE" in the menu above a posting window. It's simple. Just highlight the text you want to change and click on the menu button above to wrap it in the right tags.
Bold
Italics
Color
Size
It works for multiple actions, too. To make text bigger, bold and in color. Shade the text and click the buttons you want while leaving the text shaded.
All four at once. I clicked the buttons in the same order (don't think it matters) around shaded text.
PRIVATE works the same - shade and click.
There are more options in the "Advanced" mode than in Quick Reply, but they work pretty much the same. In Advanced mode, you can add HTML or Quote tags the same way, and there are other functions I'm stil playing with. Most of them have a pop-up explanation if you hover your cursor over the symbol.

Rest of the Story = BCD on ASPD
Some of us have been a little confused by this.
Anything you type in the "Rest of the Story" section of the review form IS BCD! Nothing more is required.
However, if you want to type your own text and make it BCD, then enclose it with "PRIVATE" tags.
"PRIVATE" tags are the "ROS" tags referred to by the ECCIE staff.

Here are a couple of more little tricks I've learned:
First, RPM told me there was a way to hide the banners but I didn't ask how (thinking it would be obvious). This feature comes in handy for those of us who sneak onto ECCIE with significant others in the area, because it is not so visually obvious what the site is about. In playing with it, I figured out that when you click the little half arrows to the right of the blue bars at the top of threads and sections/boxes on a page, it hides them or unhides them. To hide the showcase or banners for your session, just click on the arrow at the top right of the banner window on the home page when you sign on.
The other thing I discovered is pretty obvious once you see it - going to the first unread post. I would guess that many of you have already discovered it. It really comes in handy for active threads we are following. When you open a thread you have read before that has new posts for you, there will be a link on the left of the top blue bar that will take you to the First Unread Post. I used this feature on ASPD, and I was a little irritated that we didn't have it here - until I discovered that it was here all along and I never saw it!

Per a request from SeaDog...
How to post a You Tube video and have it show up and not the link....
When you reply or post have a tab open for the You Tube video and go to the right side where it says "URL" and copy that. Then in your post where you want to have the video click the world with the chain link in it and past your URL. The box comes up with an HTTP:// already in it and you have to erase that.
That is all there is to it.

Indicator Showing which threads you have posted in
Here's a god tip from the main board:
[ame="http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=11340"]http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=11340[/ame]
If the "envelope" icon to the left of the thread title has a "dot" in it, that indicates that you have posted in that thread.

"Unread Posts" indicator
From your local forum index page, the button to the left with an "E" in it will be highlighted if there are unread posts in that forum.
You can "double-click" that button to "mark all as read"

Posting a Poll
This was going to be a quick primer on polls, but that function is currently not working properly. I'll edit or reply once it's back on.
